SOP FOR SAFETY, EMERGENCY AND HANDLING OF

CYCLOTRON

General Safety :

• Smoke detectors are installed in cyclotron vault and technical room.


• Fire extinguishers are installed in cyclotron vault, technical room and corridor.
• Fire alarm switch is installed in the corridor.
• Maintaining adequate room temperature 24 hours in cyclotron vault, technical and
control room for proper functioning of equipments.
• Humidifier installed in cyclotron vault to avoid any risk of spark or short circuit.
• CCTV cameras are installed in each room of cyclotron for safety and monitoring.

Radiation Safety And Handling:

• Radiation indicator lamp is installed in cyclotron corridor as radiation existence


indicator.
• Radiation monitoring system installed in control room to monitor the radiation. Sensors
installed inside cyclotron vault.
• The radiation survey meter used to indicate the minimum level of radiation from
different areas within cyclotron vault.
• The dosimeter in cyclotron used to monitor the radiation level at different places with in
the vault.
• Cyclotron staffs are using radiation badges. The badges will be monitored on monthly
basis.
• The exhaust system which pulls airborne contamination and radiation outside cyclotron
vault which further traps into radiation filter to control environmental radiations.
• During radioactive material handling cyclotron workers using personal protective
equipments such as gloves, lead apron and lead shielding.
• Lead bins which are used to place radiated materials/parts to safe storage so they can
achieve 10th half life so it can be safe for workers to access them.
• In case of radiation alert, leave the premises and inform concern authorities
immediately.

Emergency:

• In case of any emergency POWER SWITCH installed in the control room and cyclotron
vault for any emergency shutdown.
• In case of fire, push the Emergency Break Glass installed in the corridor which activates
the alarm and leave the premises.
