TITLE: LOW-COST WEARABLE HEAD-UP DISPLAY FOR LIGHT GENERAL

AVIATION

OBJECTIVE:
To demonstrate a low-cost wearable Commercial-off-The-Shelf
(COTS) Augmented Reality (AR) Head-Up Display (HUD) system which is a
design based on the need for a technology that improves loss-of- control
(LOC) safety in the General Aviation (GA) sector. The accuracy of the flight-
path based system is determined to be within a degree of the truth source.

PROBLEM DEFINITION:
 There is a possibility that when using this display the eyes may be
inappropriately accommodated.
 The misperception of the size and the distance of objects and a loss of contrast
sensitivity, perhaps resulting in low contrast targets being missed.

METHODOLOGY:
In Figure 1, the arrows represent the direction of data flow; in the case
of a double-sided arrow, the data flow occurs in both directions.

STEP 1: Experimental hardware: The IMU helps obtain the attitude of the aircraft
(roll, pitch, and heading) and flight-path angle, while the pitot-static system helps
estimate the indicated airspeed, altitude and static pressure

STEP 2: Experimental Software: the software is an integral portion of the project it is

necessary to elaborate upon the different features of software

STEP 3: Experimental setup: in this section the ground and flight tests performed to
validate the effectiveness of head motion tracking module, ERFC HUD and
complementary filters are discussed
 Inertial measuring unit contains airspeed, altitude and static data
Connecting the IMU and pitot static to the Arduino UNO and sends to the
flight test computer
 Through wearable HUD we can see data in the display

TOOLS USED:
 AR Glasses
 Microelectromechanical Systems(MEMS)
 Accelerometer
 Arduino UNO
 Arduino Software
 On-board Data Acquisition System
