Nepalese national cricket team

The country which is in the South Asia had achieved the associate
membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in year 1996A.D
was the biggest happiness moment for Nepal cricketer and each and
every Nepalese individual. It was the year when Nepalese cricket team

played ACC Trophy in 1996 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

History

The Nepal national cricket team nicknamed The Rhinos and Gurkhas and
are governed by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). Nepal were awarded
T20I status by the ICC in June 2014 until ICC world T20I Qualifier and on
15 March 2018, Nepal got ODI status. Binod Kumar Das was the first
Nepalese captain to handle Nepali cricket team. Nepal won first major
tournament, beating USA in final of 2010 ICC World Cricket League
Divisions Five held in Kathmandu, in February 2010.

Nepal completed 2013 ACC Twenty20 Cup held at home ground in


Kritipur and Lalitpur. Nepal easily marched towards the final of the
tournament with high-class performance from their captain, Paras
Khadka. Basanta Regmi became the first bowler to take 100 wickets in
World Cricket League.

Nepal finished second in 2018 ICC World Cricket League Divisions Two
to earn a place in the2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. On 15 March,
Nepal claimed (ODI) status for the first time with their win over Papua New
Guinea in the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier 9th place play off

encounter. Due to gaining ODI status, Nepal also gained T20I status. After
gaining ODI status Nepali captain said that they want to gain test status,
which he believes will take between eight to ten years to achieve. Nepal
played three match ODI series against UAE and won 2-1, which was their
first win in ODI series. In that series Paras Khadka became first Nepali
player to score a century in ODI. Rohit Kumar Paudel became the
youngest player to score a half century in ODI and Sandeep Jora became
the world's youngest player to score half century in T20I format.

At last, we can summarize from the history of Nepalese cricket that it is in


evolving stage and very big effort was given by Nepali cricket team which
has made the entire nation proud today.

Present status

The present status of Nepali cricket team is seen to be in good form


Nowadays, they have roamed all over the world for playing cricket. First,
they were playing at Netherlands then in UAE, which were the successful
series, but on Asia cup qualifier which was held last year was the
disappointing tournament in which Nepal failed to qualify. At present,
Nepal is playing many T20Is which are successful. It is playing many
series such as Singapore Tri Nation series, Oman Pentangular Series.
And more. at present. At present, in ODIs Nepal is at no.17 0n ICC
Rankings and at no.11 in T20Is Rankings. The present visionary captain
Paras Khadka the has resigned the post of captain which is the biggest
moment of sadness for each and every cricket player and the individual of
Nepal. He says that "the suspension of Nepal cricket has been lifted and
he would like to wish the new committee to work for the betterment of
Nepal cricket, players and its stakeholders. He had hereby decided to

resign from his post as the captain of Nepal cricket team. "Moreover,
under his leadership Nepal won many series and tournaments so his
leadership will always be remembered as legendary leadership.

Some Moments with Nepalese Cricket Team

 Mehboob Alam picking up 10 wickets for 12 runs in 7.5 overs

 Nepal bowled out Myanmar for 10 runs in 10.1overs in the ACC
trophy 2006 in which Mehboob Alam took 7 wickets and Binod
Das (first captain of Nepali cricket team) took 3 wickets. Nepal
won the match by 10 wickets.
 When Nepal bowled Myanmar for 10 runs Nepal also won the
match in 2 balls in which both the opening batsman Mahesh
Chhetri and Gyanendra Malla scored 3 runs in their first ball.
Myanmar’s opening bowler Aye Min Than gave 5 extras.
 Nepal's Sompal Kami has the record for highest score by a No.
10 batsman in international T20 cricket. In Nepal's T20 with
Hong Kong on Monday, Kami walked into the field after eight of
his teammates were toppled over without making a double-digit
score. Kami made 40 runs while playing 31 balls - the highest
score by a batsman at that position in T20- and helped set a
modest target of 73 runs to Hong Kong.
 Nepal's Sundeep Jora became the youngest cricketer to
score a half-century in T20 Internationals. Aged 17 years and
103 days, Jora achieved the feat during a T20I match against
UAE in Dubai on Thursday. The youngster scored an
unbeaten 53 off 46 balls in the match.
 In 26 January 2019, at the age of 16 years and 146 days, Kumar
became the youngest male cricketer to score an international
half-century. He scored 55 runs from 58 balls in the second ODI

against the United Arab Emirates at the ICC Academy Ground
in Dubai.

Future

Every cricket commenters as well as cricket predictors say that the future
of Nepali cricket is bright. Every cricket fans in Nepal are looking forward
for the tournament Asia cup 2020, which is a T20 format which seems to
be the interesting one for Nepal. After that, the Cricket World Cup 2023 is
the next target for us. It’s true that if Nepal's ICC Ranking will be up to 1-
10 Nepal might Qualify for all tournaments.
