Transform and Lighting is the performing of transform (moving and manipulating
shapes in 3D space) and lighting effects on your graphics card's GPU (Graphics
Processing Unit), rather than the CPU (Central Processing Unit). Games programmed
specifically with hardware T&L support free up valuable CPU cycles, thus benefit
from the extra efficiency and speed provided by the optimal design of today's
GPU's.

2. Installation
---------------

NOTE: Freedom Fighters will only install and run on machines installed with Windows
98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

1. Start your machine and wait for the Windows 98/ME/2000/XP operating system to
load.

2. Place the Freedom Fighters CD in the CD drive.

3. Windows will automatically detect the CD and begin the installation. Follow the
on-screen instructions to install Freedom Fighters. If you need to install
DirectX8.1, you can do this as part of the installation.

4. The installation program adds a program group called Freedom Fighters under EA
Games to your Start/Programs, and a shortcut to your desktop. Click on this
shortcut or alternatively click on the start button on your Windows task bar. Under
Programs/Freedom Fighters select Freedom Fighters to play.

Note: If the Auto insert notification feature has been disabled or the CD is not
recognised, run Setup.exe from the root directory of the CD to begin the
installation program.

----------
3. DirectX
----------
For your convenience, we have included DirectX8.1 on the Freedom Fighters CD.

a) Installing DirectX8.1 directly from CD (if you skipped it during game install)

Freedom Fighters comes with DirectX8.1 and will prompt you to install it during
installation. If you would like to install it manually, make sure the Freedom
Fighters CD is in the CD-ROM drive and browse to the following folder.

"\Directx81"

and click on DXSETUP.EXE

b) DirectX8.1 and supported hardware

We recommend that Freedom Fighters be run with DirectX compatible sound cards and
video cards. While there is a chance that Freedom Fighters will run with non-
DirectX compatible hardware, you may find that:

i) Sound quality suffers.

ii) The game runs slower.
iii) The game does not run at all.

If your sound card or video card does not support DirectX, please contact your
vendor.

------------
4. Uninstall
------------
To uninstall Freedom Fighters go to Programs/ EA Games /Freedom Fighters in the
Start menu and click on Uninstall to proceed. Alternatively, click on the Start
menu, select Settings and then Control Panel. Now find Add/Remove Programs and
click to run. Scroll down the list until you see Freedom Fighters, select it and
click on Add/Remove to uninstall.

--------------------
5. Video configuration setup
--------------------

A configuration utility is installed with Freedom Fighters. You may wish to run
Configuration" to confirm the default selection or alter resolution settings for
higher/lower graphic quality/performance. Generally, most users will find the
default selection a satisfactory compromise.

Whenever you install or remove video devices, do not run Freedom Fighters again
without first running Configuration" from the Start Menu or splash screen. The
configuration utility shortcut is located at Programs/EA Games/Freedom
Fighters/Configuration in the start menu. Configuration" will test your system for
the presence of supported video devices and make sure that any settings will work
correctly with the game (this may be accompanied by a black screen flash on your
monitor). At the Configuration screen, select the resolution desired and click
'Test', if the test is successful click 'Save and Launch' to save your settings and
start the game.

------------------------------
6. Troubleshooting Video / 3D cards
------------------------------

Video cards with hardware T&L (see minimum PC configuration for details) support
will perform faster and allow for more on screen detail due to the optimized nature
of the game code, and as such older cards without this feature are not supported,
below is a list of popular video cards that do not contain Hardware T&L as a
feature and are not supported by the title:

NVIDIA TNT and TNT2

ATI Rage 128

ATI Mobility Radeon VE
ATI Radeon 7000
ATI Radeon VE

Kyro I (Prophet 4000)

Kyro II (Prophet 4500)
Kyro II SE (Prophet 4800)

Matrox G400
Matrox G450
Matrox G550

3DFX cards (see below also)

Video cards that use the 3DFX chip (Voodoo brand etc.) no longer have driver
support for DirectX libraries 8 and above. As Freedom Fighters requires DirectX8.1
or higher and Hardware T&L these video cards are not supported.

Due to varying technology, features and driver versions of video cards for laptops,
we cannot guarantee that this game will be compatible with laptop systems.

If you are experiencing graphical or sound problems please make sure you have the
latest drivers for your hardware installed. These can be downloaded from your
hardware manufacturers website or may be obtained from the hardware manufacturers
Technical Support hotline.

-----------
7. Peripherals
-----------

Freedom Fighters supports Microsoft Windows-compatible keyboards and Mice.

--------------
8. Trouble Shooting
--------------
Note for Windows XP users:
Windows XP has a feature called Fast User Switching; this allows multiple users
sharing the same computer to have individual profiles and to swap their current
work spaces without logging off. Freedom Fighters does not support this feature and
it is not accessable during gameplay.

9. Help
