Electronic Mentalism

Overview
Across the eco-system of electronic mentalism, there are a myriad of vendors, with many of these
vendors claiming that they are the “inventor” of a particular effect. This is particularly prevalent in the
field of electronic mentalism.

Electronic mentalism has substantial barriers to entry due to the high costs of product development
(relative to the market size), and as a result, the vendors are particularly protective of their product lines.

Anverdi was the original creator of the vast majority of the effects and popularized electronics mentalism
in the 1970s. Anverdi released the original “Color Match,” “Mental Die,” “Spirit Bell,” “Four D Dominoes”
and “Chip Divination” et al between 1972 and 1980 and all serve as the foundation of the electronic
mentalism industry.

In August 2017, Allure Capital Pty Ltd (Allure Capital), invested $AUD1.00m ($USD680k) into Illuminati
Magic to develop the next generation of electronic mentalism products. The resulting product lines
represent a generational change in mentalism – with hundreds of unique features not available from the
current suppliers. The objective in developing Unifi was to advance the field of mentalism, a goal that
will be achieved this year.

Before commencing the development, Allure Capital’s Intellectual Property attorneys conducted an
extensive patent search and negotiated an agreement to license US Patent #20180317809A1, which
governs the use of a magnetometer and an accelerometer to determine the position of the three-
dimensional object in space.

Anverdi’s Mental Dice was the first product that presented in the form factor of a dice that incorporated
a radio transmitter. Since this time, there has been many innovators in the Industry: Cassini, Wiseman,
Mason, Labco (Soren Harbo), Tim Wisseman, Jolyon Jenkins, Jam Magic, Leyser, MagikData (Fabrice
Delaure) Promystic (Craig Filicetti), Dody Magic (Marc Antoine), Cesaral Magic (Cesar Alonso), Hekate,
Taylor Imagineering (Chris Taylor), Eclipse Electronics, Master Miracles (Juergen Kretschmer), Steve
Skindell, Sean Taylor and Hugo Shelley who all made considerable contributions to the world of
electronic mentalism.

Dice Competitors
Anverdi is generally credited with the design and development of the first dice that contained a radio
transmitter and released this in 1977. Since this time, there have been dozens of companies and
organizations that have released dice/cube-based effects.

The first completely sealed dice incorporating a radio transmitter was developed in 1999 by Yn-Ching
Peng.

PenSense Competitors
The Color Match principle, the ability for the performer to discreetly identify which color pen had been
selected by a spectator, dates back to 1972 when Anverdi first released “Color Match”. Over the
following 47 years, there have been numerous incarnations of Anverdi’s Match.

The “Which Hand” effect was popularized by Derren Brown in the early 2000’s. Darren has not revealed
his method behind his popular “Which Hand” effect, however, it is generally hypothesized that he used
electronics in his performance.

Thumper Competitors
A Thumper is a device used in a variety of magic tricks, typically with mentalism acts. It consists of a
small vibrating device that is triggered by a remote radio transmitter by a confederate in the audience
or be trigger automatically through an event occurring from a magic prop. The very first Thumpers, were
commercially available pagers, that were originally invented in 1921 2.

Virtually all electronic mentalism products require some form of communication to the performer, with
the options being a vibrating receiver, a visual display or an audio announcement.
