TIN WOMAN

(sings in a mechanical, deadpan way)

If I could feel happy or sad, any emotion, I’d show it.
The world would stand still and take notice, I know it.
How wonderful it must be to feel love, to feel hate,
To have emotions of any kind – oh, that would be great.
.
If I could just feel anything, feel it here, in my core,
then I’m sure I could spread my wings and start to soar.
I would make up a dance, such a dance,
Like you’ve never seen dancing before!

(The TIN WOMAN tries to dance. But her various limbs

work in conflict with each other, and she falls to the floor.)

ISABELLA
Oh, don’t look, Todo. It’s too awful.

SCARECROW
Well, help me get her up.
(THEY help the TIN WOMAN stand up)
Are you all right?

TIN WOMAN
(starts singing again in her mechanical tone)
Wow, it must be amazing to feel things in your gut.

SCARECROW
Oh no.

ISABELLA
Should we stop her?

TIN WOMAN
(sings) I mean, what is a gut? Is it in front or in your … but
Wherever it is, I would give anything to feel things
Strongly there, I would just break out and . . . sing.
If I could just feel anything, feel it here, in my core,
then I’m sure I could spread my wings and start to soar.

ISABELLA
I don’t have a good feeling about this.

SCARECROW
We have to do something!
TIN WOMAN
(sings) I would make up a dance, such a dance,
Like you’ve never seen dancing before!
