Academic Projects/Internships

Current Project:

Master Thesis Project at Integrated Centre for Applied Physics and Photonic Materials, Technical University of
Dresden, Germany (June 2019- Present)
Project Guide: Prof. Karl Leo, Dr Hans Kleemann
Title: Flexible Organic electronic device for biomedical in-vivo sensing.

Photovoltaics:
Summer Internship at Institute of Nanotechnology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany (Aug 2018- October
2018)
Project Guide: Dr Benjamin Flavel
Title: Carbon nanotube-Silicon Heterojunction Solar cell
In this work, we used carbon nanotubes for our solar device, which have been estimated to have an exciton diffusion length of 0.1 –
1 µm. Carbon nanotube exhibits extraordinary electronic and optical properties, which can be used for efficient charge carrier
separation.
Summer Internship at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National TsingHua University, Taiwan
(May 2017- July 2017)
Project Guide: Prof. Chih-Huang Lai
Title: Fabrication of Copper-Zinc-Tin-Selenide(CZTS) solar cell

I worked with Prof. Chih-Huang Lai to develop Kesterite based Solar cell (CZTSSe) .using spray pyrolysis method. Kesterite based
solar cells have emerged as replacement of chalcopyrite based photovoltaics. Photovoltaics based on the kesterite structure such as
CZTS, CZTSe, and CZTSSe, stand out from other thin-film Solar cells for being composed of nontoxic and elements earth-
abundant.

Undergraduate Thesis at Department of Materials Engineering, IISc, Bangalore (August 2016- April 2017)

Project guide: Prof. Praveen C Ramamurthy

Title: Fabrication of .flexible organic photovoltaics

The first project was on optimization of ITO sputtering parameter on a flexible substrate. ITO is deposited on flexible willow
glasses using RF sputtering technique. Various parameters such as power, substrate temperature, argon-oxygen ratio, time of
sputtering, annealing time and temperature are optimized. ITO acts as an electrode in solar cells and thus, should have low
resistance for easy collection of charge carriers. Also, transmittance and roughness are important aspects as lower transmittance
reduces photon absorption and roughness might lead to pinholes in the device.

The second project involved “Fibrous morphology based Organic Electronic devices.” In this work, fibrous morphology based
polymer is used to improve the charge transport in the organic electronic devices. PEDOT: PSS/PEO/PVA ternary blend nanofibers
mat was produced using the electrospinningmethod, a free-standing, substrate-free device was fabricated on the fiber mat.

Other topics:
Advanced Research Lab, Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany (December 2018- April 2019)
Project Guide: Prof. Lambert Alff
Title: Fabrication of in-situ MIM structure for RRAM application.
The aim of this work is to use the lithography process to allow shrinkage of device from 10 µm * 10 µm to 1-2µm * 1-2µm .

Internship at Institute of Molecular Science (Analytical Nanosystem), University of Bordeaux, France (Jan 2018-Feb
2018)
Project Guide: Prof. DodziZigah, Prof. Adeline Perro
Title: Conducting Polymer based electrochemical glucose sensor.
The sensitivity and reproducibility of the glucose sensor were enhanced in this study by using a bi-enzymatic mechanism. The
enzyme coated integrated screen-printed carbon electrodes can be directly used for monitoring glucose level in blood.

Research project at Department of Materials Engineering, IISc, Bangalore (Sep 2015-June 2016)
Project Guide: Prof. ChandanSrivastva
Title: Synthesis and Microstructural Characterization of Multimetal Nanoparticle-Graphene Composites.

High entropy alloys (HEA’s) are solid (robust) solutions of five or more component elements in equiatomicor near equi-atomic
ratios. Instead of forming multiple intermetallic phases, these alloys generally adopt simple cubic structures. The stability of the
solid solution phase in HEA’s is due to the increased configurational entropy of the system. The multi-component nanoparticles
over graphene significantly enhance the corrosion resistance offered by only graphene coating on mild steel. The as -
synthesised HEA nanoparticle graphene composite can, therefore, be spray painted over surfaces to provide corrosion
protection.

Summer project at Department of Materials Engineering, IISc, Bangalore (May-June 2015)

Project guide: Prof. Praveen C Ramamurthy
Title: Polyaniline (PANI)/PVB composite film for Electromagnetic interference shielding.

Though conducting polymers are believed as suitable for EMI shielding, the issue arises with stability, as its conductivity decreases
due to de-doping. To resolve this problem, an encapsulation layer is needed to be introduced here. Poly (vinyl butyryl) (PVB), a
weather resistive transparent polymer, used to encapsulate many electronics devices, is considered as a potential candidate for PANI
in EMI shielding. Moreover, it shows that the dielectric and moisture resistance permeability of PVB film increases in the presence
of fly ash cenosphere.
