You can know someone all your life and never really know them.
FROM RAGS
You know a depth of pain that some may never experience. I have sat and observed
tonight as many others who know pain were drawn to you; as if they look at you and
see another wounded soul, and your strength is like a homing beacon to them. That
kind of strength can only come from being accepting of what you have endured and
who you truly are. I like that you refuse to act as society expects you to act.
You're not civil if you do not believe the person you are speaking to deserves it,
you're not patient if you do not believe the person trying your patience is worthy
of it. You're true to yourself, you're real.
I won't give him a reaction. But then, as if her hand had a mind of its own, it
flicked the spoon in his direction and the dollop of soup splattered over his face
and the top part of his black shirt.
People meet her and think she can't be hurt. So did I, but I've learnt that what
makes her tough is that when she is hurt she deals with it.
I like that you don't tell people what you think they want to hear.
He'd learned over the past three months that her hearing was selective.
She thought it was wrong that people would stand and sneer at those who had been
vrought up in the system but you didn't see them getting together to come uo with a
better bloody system.
The man was a walking red button - push it and bad things happen.
BY THE BOOK
No one was worse at listening to instructions than a bunch of professors -we were
used to telling people what to do, not being told what to do.
DO OVER
"He's a five hundred pound gorilla. Kyle, this is my frined, Mr. Coco."
"You'll excuse me if I don't shake his hand."
"Yes, like I said, he has intimacy issues."
She had low self-esteem but confidence too. And air of sorrwo surrounded her, but
she had a great sense of humor despite that. She was a total paradox.
It's a male ego thing. The more unavailable you are, the more desirable you become.
IDOL
That's the thing with endings in real life. You never really know when they're
going to happen.
Rye is built like a linebacker with the energy of a puppy. A scary combination.
There is some method to my madness. I knew it would either annoy her or throw her
off.
BURN
They tricked, they stole, they lied, they cheated, and they could get in and out of
any place without being noticed and they were completely casual about it. Jolene
liked to call them 'multitalented'.
Her eyes did a quick sweep of the room. And he knew that, in that small moment, she
had assessed what was of value, the most likely places for a safe to be positioned
and every possible exit. It would be instinctive.
If someone has a problem with me, well it's their problem to deal with. Why should
I feel bad about it? I'm not responsible for what other people do or don't feel.
"Why don't you wear the necklace I gave you with the fishbone charm on it. It's for
good luck."
"How can it give good luck? Things didn't exactly go well for the fish."
Standing in Jolene's kitchen a few hours later, Knox had to wonder if this was what
a mental ward was like.
She was insulted that anyone thought rope was enough to secure her. No self
respecting Wallis would be unable to escape ties of any kind.
She didn't make the error most did and try to hit he blade; she tried to hit her
opponent.
BLAZE
Dolphins are seriously twisted, you know. They're the only predators that kill
their young for fun. Oh, they might look cute and seem charming, but that innocent
exterior is quite an act. They're like the sea-world's version of Ted Bundy.
Dragonfly: they have a short lifespan and they're very delicate, but neither of
those things hold them back. They're master fliers.
I sometimes look at how well-organized, precise and fearless Khloe can be and think
'Wow, she'd make an excellent army general.' But then I remember it would only be a
matter of time before she'd be shott by her own troops.
First rule of stealing: make the alarm go off before you leave. Then no one bats an
eyelid when you walk out. Sometimes I make it go off a few times so it seems
faulty.
It's like she brushes people off before they've even spoken to her, which I find
hilarious. It's hard to approach someone like that. It's hard to offend someone who
simply doesn't care what you think. And it's hard to manipulate a person who you
can't understand.
The light breeze would have been welcome if it wasn't as hot as the day itself.
Seriously, it was like having someone point a hairdryer at your face while it was
on its hottest setting. As if that wasn't bad enough, the breeze brought plenty of
dirt with it.
ASHES
Nobody likes me. They fear me and so they're civil toward me out of respect and a
sense of self preservation.
Lou likes loopholes. Any deal he makes always has a catch -and it's always one that
makes the demon sorry they made the deal in the first place.
"Are you trying to appeal to my conscience? That inner voice gave up on me a long
time ago."
If you appeared to know exactly where you were going, people were very unlikely to
bother you.
Feeder: can feed on the energy around, absorb it and control it.
They should never give the enemy the chance to make the first move; not when you
were dealing with vampires as you never knew just what gift they had.
It's typical of narcissists to, on a subconscious level, pick a golden child and
scapegoat. The golden child can do no wrong; the scapegoat can do no right.
Sam and jared din't get off to a great start. But a lot of duels later, here they
are... stil fighting.
Who wouldn't love a gril who'd set someone on fire for you?
Harvey suggested that we make it look like we're protecting people by guarding the
building; that way it whould not only mean that they mad themselves clear targets
by coming at us, but it would also draw them away from the bunker underneath the
Command Centre, there are a lot of people hiding in there.
Many meetings had started with 'Luther had a vision', and things had often gone to
shit after that.
"Nothing to say?"
"Not really. I like intelligent conversation."
My mom always said that guys are like commercials-you can't trust a single word
they say.
She was the only person who seemed to think I was normal. Or maybe she just didn't
care that I wasn't.
There was something transfixing about her; in the way she carried herself with
confidence and poise. In some ways, she mad me think of a cat. She was graceful.
Curious. Independent. So easy going she often came across as aloof to those who
didn't know her. Not to mention that she could fall asleep just about anywhere.
What appealed to me most about her was the quiet strength that stamped her as a
survivor. Not just a survivor, a fighter.
I should have remembered she lost her easy-going temperament when anyone pushed
her.
People take it for granted that they'l meet someone later when they're ready. But
that doesn't always happen, so they end up settling for somebody because they don't
want to be alone.
LURE OF OBLIVION
"I'm waiting for you to ask me dumb question. Like can me and Rory hear each
other's thoughts? Can we feel each other's pain? People tend to automatically
assume we have some kind of mystical connection. They're often surprised to hear we
don't get along, let alone that we don't find it hard to be apart. And it isn't
always as much fun as people assume. Think of someone who pisses you off easier
than they can breathe. Now imagine living with them, seeing them every day, sharing
a room with them, having to deal with them doing whatever they can to irritate and
goad you."
"There is rivalry between us. What fed the rialry was that we were each other's
measuring stick The first thing people seemed to do was tally our differences. When
people talked about us, it was often comparing us rather than describing us as
individuals. Who was born first? Who crawled first? Plus we were expected to share
everything. He didn't like to share. His first word was 'mine' and my fist word
wash 'shush'."
DARK INSTINCT
Did you know that a sigh actually acts as a physiological reset button.
The quiet ones, everyone knew to be wary of them. They were comfortable being quite
for a reason: they weren't afraid to be challenged and even welcomed it-often
because they were a little crazy.
Keep laughing, old man. Just don't forget who chooses your nursing home.
Twelve years ago, her instinct had been to go straight for the groin. Now she knew
better. Knew it was a predictable move that was easily countered.
Cupping her hands, she slapped them hard over Lyle's ears. He roared and staggered
as his eardrum shattered.
SAVAGE URGES
He was a man of few words. Although he was detached and unsociable, he wasn't
completely without social skills. He simply didn't care to be what others would
define as social.
He didn't believe in fluff talk or that smiling should be his default expression.
People sometimes assumed that he wished he were talkative. That wasn't the case at
all. When he was quiet it was because he simply didn't have anything he wished to
share at the moment. But his quiet nature often made people feel uncomfortable,
even though not everyone who talked actually listened. They wanted to talk ostly to
fill a silence.
What are the funniest famous last words you've ever heard?
- Lightning never hits the same spot twice.
- Pull the pin out and count to what?
- Hold my beer while I do this.
- Hey, what does this button do?
- This doesn't taste right.
- It's just a flesh wound.
- What's that red dot on your forehead?
I'm not jealous that God only talks to you. In fact, I think it's unfair that when
a person talks to God it's called 'praying' but when God talks to them it's called
'schizoprenia'.
Street fights are over fairly quickly and reaquire a minimum amount aof strategy.
Battles go on for longer and require a lot of strategy. Not to mention stamina and
endurance.
What a lot of people don't realize is that it takes guts to run and take the chance
of being caught.
People said that actions spoke louder than words, but they didn't seem to take
clues from the behavior of those around them.
PRIVATE PRACTICE
"Count to three."
"One, two- God! What happened to three?"
"Three is where you tense up and a little shot ends up feeling like a knuckleball
hitting your muscle at ninety miles per hour.
FERAL SINS
Isn't ig great when just your very existence infuriates someone? You've got to love
that kind of power.
Scrap hostile and sinister, the guy looked like he needed a rabies shot.
Slinkies?
Yeah basically useless, but they make you smile when you push them down the stairs.
I've just never worked out why they put pizza in a square box.
Oh no honey, I'm an angel, I swear. THe horns are only there to hold up the halo.
I was just imagining you waring a shock collar while I held the remote.
I only fell because I got distracted by your breast. Could you tell them to stop
looking at my eyes?
I'm not tired. I'm just checking my eyelids for holes. It could take a while.
It's just that you sound, well, normal. I'm not sure whether that means we need to
increase your medication or mine.
WICKED CRAVING
"Stalked?"
"No, I just watched him. At night. From behind a bush. Using night-vission goggles.
I wish the wizard had lived up to his promise and given you a heart.
Sometimes people need to have something moved from their reach before they realize
how much they want it.
CARNAL SECRET
Wow, did he actually suspect she'd run like a frightened little fawn? He shoud. She
was seriously considering it.
Why would I do that? If you're going to linger like a bad smell, you can make
yourself useful.
I had the urge to text somebody who's smart, hot and sweet, but sending messages to
myself is ust pathetic, so hi.
ECHOES OF FIRE
Your kind is nature's idea of cruel trick. You're walking, breathing plush toys, so
fluffly and cute that people would never think there was a single thing dangerous
about you.
Very few people truly understand Bracken. He can be easygoing and playful, and he
doesn't argue much because it's hard to offend him, but he's got a temper than runs
cold. I watched him beat the shit out of a guy, and not once did his expression
show anything but utter indifference. I've seen him defeat an opponent with nothing
but a punch to the temple and go on about his day like it never happened. Bracken
doesn't explode. He becomes ice.
There a reason why you ave crop circles in your front yard?
Freaks out the old bastard next door.
Why is he a bastard?
He doesn't like shifters and is pretty verbal about it.
I don't hate you. But if you're ever pushed into traffic, there's a good chance
that it was me.
