RIZAL COLLEGE OF TAAL

INTRODUCTION

Work immersion refers to the part of the SHS Curriculum consisting of 80

hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which the Grades 11 and 12

students will undergo to expose them to the actual workplace setting and to enrich

the competencies provided by the school under the supervision of the School Head

and the designated personnel of the partner. This said immersion is done outside

the school premises depending on the student’s selected strand/ course. This

activity will help them familiarize themselves to their target job’s purpose or on how

their course should supposed to look in the actual field. I personally think that this is

a great head start for us especially to those who are still not decided if their chosen

course will be the key to their dream jobs. I know that there are still some of us that

have questions in their minds specifically, on what will be their future if they took

their desired courses. Work immersion will help develop our lives and career skills,

and will prepare us to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment.

At the end of our immersion, we are tasked to do this narrative report to help

us reflect on what have we learned throughout our experience and this report will

help us determine if we still think that this is the appropriate course/ strand for our

personality and capability. The process of reflecting in our experience is in need to

be done for our own need. This is required to be done by every student that

undergoes to work immersion and will be checked by their class adviser for

approval.

NARRATIVE REPORT

Reflection

In my 80 hours in the field, I’ve learned so much already specially in

communicating to clients on the phone. When our coordinator is not available to

answer telephone calls, we are asked by them to answer calls and jut down notes

for important clients and other messages. Another thing that I’ve learn is the places

and routes in Batangas City since our training supervisor sometimes takes us with

him to visit nearby clients or to pick up materials for a specific project and

sometimes, we are asked to run some errands for them like buying a visitor some

complimentary gifts and depositing pay slips. We are more than grateful for the trust

that we gained from the company, we actually are scheduled to go with our

supervisor in Bataan for some important matters but unfortunately, we are finished

with our work immersion by then. Me and my classmate also learned some

unfamiliar Batangueno words, though it is irrelevant to put it on my reflection paper,

it is a thing that I wanted to share. The company that we conducted our work

immersion is a sociable type of workplace. We are comfortable chatting with our

officers and even some workshop staffs. They are professionals but if there are

spare times to spend, they love to chat and tell their stories to us. They are so

welcoming that even our country manager plays around and tell jokes for us. This

work immersion is really an unforgettable experience to me and to my classmate.

And we hope, we can meet our officers again in some places. They are not just

there to observe us but they are always ready to help and to answer questions from

us with both professional and chatting questions. Sometimes, I feel like they are just

my older brother or sister and I can laugh around with them, I can have fun while

spending my 80 hours of immersion. Some might say that this word immersion is

boring because of the fact that it is only for two weeks, but for me, even if it takes

place in a short amount of time, I loved every single moment of it.

List of Tasks

Day 1 (November 23, 2017)

On our day as an intern, we’ve done a lot of reading a discussion. We read the

company profile several times and after that, we are interviewed by the country

manager. Nothing much to be narrated in our first day like what I’ve said, we pretty

much read and read and then interviewed and then read some more. We answered

minimal phone calls and then read some more.

Day 2 (November 24, 2017)

After three hours of minimal searching and assistance, our training supervisor

included us in his on road searching of materials for a current project that day. We

experienced to go on a road trip to the whole city and it took us four hours until we

finally returned, bringing with us some materials that the workshop needed.
RIZAL COLLEGE OF TAAL

Day 3 (November 27, 2017)

Minimal assistance is all we did this day, we helped our officers by printing and

typing for them, making them coffee and receiving telephone calls. We cannot deny

that this day is not that exciting as we expected to be but still, it is a pretty busy day.

And at our last two hours, we read again our company’s profile.

Day 4 (November 28, 2017)

At our fourth day, we visited the company’s workshop which probably is the

heart and soul of their company. We familiarize ourselves in different machines

present at the workshop for building and repair purposes. We are also introduced to

the mechanical and electrical staffs present in the workshop.

RIZAL COLLEGE OF TAAL

Day 5 (November 29, 2017)

Our fifth day is interestingly fun!

After a day of minimal assistance and searching, before we go home, We did one

thing and it was an unforgettable experience, and that is to search again for

materials and to be with our supervisor as we accompanied him. We enjoyed the

travels a lot especially because Batangas City is not our home town.

Day 6 (December 1, 2017)

Paper work day cause it’s Monday! Like most offices, we are busy at Mondays

and we, as interns did have a pretty busy day too. We are asked to glue receipts

and line up every inventory card. A lot of typing and searching, minimal assistance,

and answering phone call as usual. It was a hand-full Monday and personally, I

loved it pretty much. Experiencing office job excites me especially if I’ll be pursuing

my industrial engineering course.

RIZAL COLLEGE OF TAAL

Day 7 (December 4, 2017)

Another minimal day for us, our officers are gone on this day because a staff

member passed away and they all went to the wake and me and my co-intern are

the only ones who are available at that time. We are lucky to experience a full time

work immersion experience and we enjoyed it a lot.

Day 8 (December 5, 2017)

It’s December and it is expected that even in the office, we ought to wrap gifts

for our visitors next week and since we are not present next week, we obligated

ourselves to wrap those gifts. It was fun and entertaining especially with the fact

that we wrapped 30 wines in one day! And after that, another minimal thing to do

and to finish our day, we again, search for more data.

RIZAL COLLEGE OF TAAL

Day 9 (December 6, 2017)

We need to finish up the company’s inventory today and some of our tasks

that we are still stuck with. We still did receive calls but we all lend our time to the

11 month inventory that we are rewriting. And to be honest, I wanted to stay here

and just work and work especially this type of environment.

Day 10 (December 7, 2017)

Since this day is our last day, we just basically hanged on the company’s

workshop and wait, observe project constructions and after that, we wrote all of the

materials that is used for the project and then punched it and compile with other

project materials in the office. Our last day is such a relieving graduation because

we get the chance to bond more with the staff and to thank them for everything.
RIZAL COLLEGE OF TAAL

WEEKLY REPORT

Week 1

On our first week as an intern, we’ve done a lot of reading a discussion. We

read the company profile several times and after that, we are interviewed by the

country manager. He is also the one who discussed the company’s background to

us and after that we read more about the company’s partners in trade. We picked

up scrap metals for a project for Shell and our training supervisor even drove us off

to familiarize ourselves to places in Batangas. We’ve done a lot of printing and

searching data and also helping our officers with photocopying important files. We

even experienced to serve our country manager coffee and deliver him important

messages through emails. Week one was an okay week, it is not a very busy week

but still, we’ve done our parts and learned a lot.

Week 2

On our second week, we’ve done a lot of minimal helping and we also get the chance to

write the inventory. Our officers also help us to understand their company’s way of handling

their employee’s needs. On this week, an employee passed away and we observed how

caring our country manager is to his employees. All of the staff attended his wake in the

middle of lunch and since we are the only ones who are available to handle the company,

we are asked to stay on our office and answer phone calls and print stuff for them. It is a

great honor since we are in need of personal experience so getting this chance is very

exciting. In our last days we completed to file the inventory for the months of January till

November. Our office hours are from 7:30 in the morning till 4:30 in the afternoon so we

have plenty of time to do any tasks we are asked to do.
