GUIDELINES

DATE AND VENUE


The 1st INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ SHOW 2019 will be held on February __, 2020 from 9:00
am to 11:00 am at the QUADRANGLE of COLEGIO DE DAGUPAN.

REGISTRATION

1. An initial registration via e-mail on or before 12nn of February __, 2020 is required. It
must include the name of the school and the list of complete names (with middle initial) of the
participants and the coach. Kindly fill up the form attached (see page 7) in Roman block capitals
and send it via e-mail as a pdf file. Please do note that if there would be a need to change the
participating students for the team, kindly inform us on or before February __, 2019 so we may
comply with the necessary adjustments for the said event, thus no changes can be made after the

2. An official registration should be made before the start of the contest proper by submitting the
original copy of the registration form on February __, 2019. There will be a registration booth
at the entrance of Colegio de Dagupan.

3. Upon the submission of the Official Registration Forms, only the REGISTERED students shall be
allowed to compete in the entire quiz show and no changes can be made.
ELIGIBILITY

1. Only one (1) team are allowed to represent their respective school.

2. A team is composed of five (5) members from any academic strand. However, only three
(3) members shall participate in every round all throughout the conduct of the quiz show. The
team is accompanied by one (1) coach.

3. All Members of the team shall be bonafide students of their respective school.

4. The participating teams are required to be at the venue on or before the competition starts.
(To be guided accordingly, attached herewith is a copy of the program for the said event.) Teams
that will not follow the said rule will only be given a ten (10) minutes time frame to compensate
for their lack of punctuality. Failure to comply will result in automatic disqualification of the
team.

NATURE OF QUESTIONS

1. The quiz show is comprised of three (3) rounds: EASY, MODERATE, AND DIFFICULT. Each
round is comprised of ten (10) questions.

2. The total of 30 questions may come from the fields of Science (Earth and Life Science, Physical
Science), Mathematics (General Mathematics, Statistics and Probability, Precalculus),
and General Information and Current Events.

3. Each objective-type question will be worth five (5) points and will be answered within a
maximum of two (2) minutes. Each problem-solving question will be worth ten (10) points
and will be answered within a maximum of fifteen (15) seconds.

4. The questions shall be in the form of Identification, Fill-in-the-Blanks and Problem Solving.
CONDUCT OF THE QUIZ SHOW

1. Each team will be provided with answer sheets and papers that will be used for their
computations.
a. The final answers should be written on the Official Answer Sheet.
b. If there are two answers separated by OR, the first answer shall be considered the final answers
c. In case the contestants need to change their answers, they shall cross out the previous answers
and rewrite the final answers, clearly enclosed by a circle or a rectangle.
d. Watchers will be assigned to ensure that no alterations are made on the Official Answer Sheets at
the end of the designated time limit.

2. The quiz master will first announce the corresponding category, time allotted for computation
and writing of final answer, and the equivalent point of each question.
5. Each Question will be read twice. The team may start solving the problem while the question is
still being read. The timer will start once the quizmaster says “Timer starts now.” When the
allotted time has elapsed, the quizmaster will say “Time is up.”

6. The candidates per team may discuss their answers within themselves, but the team must only
write one final answer on the Official Answer Sheet.

7. Upon the announcement of “Time is up”, the Official Answer Sheet must be raised
immediately. If a team fails to do so, it will be deemed that the team has given an
incorrect answer. The watchers will then retrieve the raised Official Answer Sheet and submit it
to the panel of judges for checking and verification. The Quizmaster will announce the teams
who got the correct answer as verified by the panel of judges.

8. Incorrectly spelled answers will constitute a wrong answer. Questions with numerical
answers must be solved without rounding off. If the numerical answer is not a whole number,
the answer must be expressed in four (2) decimal places unless otherwise specified.
Failure to comply will automatically make the answer incorrect.

9. Proper units must also be observed. However, if the question asks for an answer in certain
units, then the magnitude without a unit is acceptable. Example: How many centimeters are there
in a meter? Both the answers “100” and “100 cm” are acceptable.

10. No deductions will be made for incorrect answers and for unanswered questions.

11. No other materials, (e.g., reference books, notebooks, etc.), will be allowed during the contest.
12. The total team score will be determined by summing up the scores in the easy, moderate and
difficult rounds. The team that is able to attain the highest total score will be awarded the
winner.
13. Ties shall be broken by sudden-death play-off. Tied teams will be asked a series of questions
until the tie is completely resolved. If the tie still exists after three tie-breaking questions, the
speed-play format will be followed. Teams will bid for the correct answer. The first team that will
give the correct answer within the allotted time will win the tie.

CLARIFICATIONS

1. Only the official participating members of each team actually on stage may raise questions
or clarifications on the answers already given.

2. Clarification regarding the questions and answers should be directed to the panel of judges
only after the allotted time for the given questions.

3. All questions shall be raised in proper decorum (good manners). Any act by the
participants derogatory to the Quiz Show Committee and Board of Judges shall be dealt
/meted with corresponding penalty to be decided and imposed by CdD including but
not limited to possible disqualification from the Quiz Show and suspension in any
future quiz shows organized by CdD.

4. THE DECISION OF THE PANEL OF JUDGES SHALL BE FINAL and IRREVOCABLE.

5. CdD RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE PART OF THE RULES & REGULATIONS TO
FURTHER IMPROVE THE CONDUCT OF THE QUIZ SHOW.
