Entrepreneurial brothers Alasdair and Cameron
Mitchell, have recently launched their new gym
vision.
Volt Gym, the premium fitness facility based in
Burscough, Lancashire, was opened following an
opportunity to develop and renovate a disused unit
on an industrial estate.
Their vision was to create a high-performance gym
for the local community, providing a unique facility
for those who are serious about training.
After identifying the need for a different type of gym
offering, the inspirational pair in their early twenties,
decided to go into business together to provide a
gym facility that created the opportunities and
requirements which matched the local needs.

With a business objective of reaching 500 members
by the end of its first year of trading, the founders
of Volt Gym collaborated with Life Fitness to help
realise their vision.
Cameron Mitchell explains:
“At the start of the planning process we were keen to
break with negative gym stereotypes of cold, clinical,
unwelcoming places with intimidating atmospheres.
Instead, we wanted to create an environment where
members were passionate about training, gaining
maximum enjoyment from the process and feeling
empowered”

Working with Life Fitness
Life Fitness brings a wealth of knowledge and ex-
perience and Matt Blaymire, Account Manager at
Life Fitness began his partnership with Alasdair and
Cameron, reviewing the brother’s visions and plans,
whilst advising on using the available space efficiently
and selecting the right pieces of equipment to suit
their requirements.
There will always be a place for the traditional cardio
suite, however, Volt Gym also wanted to support its
members with getting lean and strong.
In designing Volt Gym with Life Fitness, Alasdair and
Cameron have turned the conventional cardio-intensive
health club on its head, focusing instead on functional
training zones and fewer cardio pieces.
Volt Gym has three functional training zones, including
the SYNRGY360XS; a versatile piece of equipment
that has become very popular among members.

SYNRGY was the perfect choice and is a bespoke
design to fit around the gym, as well as the Volt Gym
brand. SYNRGY allows volt members to do full-body
circuits, group training, cardio and strength training,
all in one space.
Members and personal trainers have access to two
unique training spaces, occupying a relatively small
floor space, which creates a compact, diverse
training environment with a focus on encouraging
social interaction.
“As this was a new business venture and not having
any previous project management experience to
draw upon, working with Life Fitness made the process
run very smoothly.
Matt provided lots of valuable advice before, during
and after the installation. He arranged site visits
to other gyms so we could see first-hand how the
space and equipment mix would work, as well as
taking us through the wide range of customisation
options so we could subtly create zones with different
coloured equipment”
Cameron explains: “My brother and I recognised
that investing in premium Life Fitness and Hammer
Strength equipment would set us apart from other
facilities so it was a simple decision when selecting
a fitness supplier for Volt Gym. The result has been
the creation of an exciting and dynamic training
environment and members recognise the work and
dedication it has taken us to put this idea into practice.”

and with over 50% of their goal already, they are
impressively on target to achieve their first year’s
target membership. To maintain a diverse membership
base, Volt Gym’s group training and indoor cycling
classes have proved effective in attracting an older
demographic, especially with females.
Cameron concludes: “Choosing Life Fitness as our
equipment supplier was definitely the right decision
for us as our members really value the quality of the

quality and I believe that in itself has driven up
our membership numbers up significantly”
