Effect of growing up with alcoholic parents:

➔ Having alcoholic parents increases the child’s risk of being physically, sexually, or
emotionally abused. Emotional neglect is also common in alcoholic households.

➔ If a woman consumes alcohol while pregnant, the child may develop birth defects
that can often be lethal to the baby.

➔ Adults who grew up with alcoholic parents often grow up to have serious trust issues.
Alcoholics can act deceiving and and untruthful. This can lead to adults not trusting
as easily. They may also fear anyone who is angry as a result from their childhood
trauma.

➔ Former children of alcoholic parents may also feel low self esteem and compare
themselves to others too much. This is a result of judgement they may have
experienced in their childhoods by a parent who was intoxicated. This can make them
feel the need for approval from their peers.

➔ Overall, alcoholism is a destructive disease, not only for the person dealing with the
addiction, but also whoever is surrounding them.
