I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students in Math 7 must be able to:
• solve the perimeter of the polygons
• discuss the formula of the polygons and how they differ from each other
• solve the perimeter of selected materials found inside the school campus

Content: Measurement
Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of
measurement.
Performance Standards: The learner is able to formulate real-life problems involving
measurements and solve these using a variety of strategies.
Learning Competency: The learner approximates the measures of quantities
particularly length, weight/mass, volume, time, angle and temperature and rate.
Code: M7ME-IIa-3

III. PROCEDURE (Lesson Development)

i. Prayer
ii. Greetings
iii. Checking of Attendance
iv. Review

B. Lesson Proper (Presentation)

i. ACTIVITY
Activity 1.
Group the students into 2. Group 1 will measure the distance around the classroom.
Group 2 will measure the distance around the blackboard in the classroom. They will
use tape measure or meter stick.

ii. ANALYSIS
Q1. How did you measure the distance of the classroom and the table?
A1. By using measuring tool such as tape measure and meter stick, the measurement is
done by getting the distance of all the sides of the latter then adding them all.

iii. ABSTRACTION
In the activity, you are already solving the Perimeter of an object.
Q1. What is Perimeter?
A1. Perimeter is the distance around a polygon.
Q2. How to solve the perimeter of a polygon?
A2. To solve perimeter, just simply add the lengths of the sides of a polygon, except
circle which has a different formula.

Example:

Perimeter of a Rectangle 8m
Formula: 𝑷=𝒍+𝒍+𝒘+𝒘
Where 𝑙 is a length and 𝑤 is a width of a
rectangle. 15 m
Solution: m
𝑃 = 𝑙+𝑙+𝑤+𝑤
𝑃 = 8 𝑚 + 8 𝑚 + 15 𝑚 + 15 𝑚
𝑷 = 𝟒𝟔 𝒎
Example:

Perimeter of a Square
3 cm
Formula: 𝑷 = 𝟒𝒔
Where 𝑠 is a side of a square.
Solution:
𝑃 = 4𝑠
𝑃 = 4 × 3 𝑐𝑚
𝑷 = 𝟏𝟐 𝒄𝒎
Example:

Perimeter of a Parallelogram 6 in.

Formula: 𝑷= 𝒃+𝒃+𝒄+𝒄
Where 𝑏 is the base and 𝑐 is the side of the
parallelogram. 5 in.
Solution:
𝑃 =𝑏+𝑏+𝑐+𝑐
𝑃 = 5 𝑖𝑛. +5 𝑖𝑛. +6 𝑖𝑛. +6 𝑖𝑛.
𝑷 = 𝟐𝟐 𝒊𝒏.
Example:

6 dm
4 dm
Perimeter of a Triangle
Formula: 𝑷=𝒂+𝒃+𝒄
Where 𝑎, 𝑏, and 𝑐 are the sides of a triangle.
7 dm
Solution:
𝑷=𝒂+𝒃+𝒄
𝑃 = 4 𝑑𝑚 + 7 𝑑𝑚 + 6 𝑑𝑚
𝑃 = 17 𝑑𝑚
Perimeter of a Circle Example:
Formula: 𝑷 = 𝟐𝝅𝒓 or 𝑷 = 𝝅𝒅
Where 𝜋 (pi) is approximately equal to 3.14
and 𝑟 is the radius of a circle. d = 6 mm

Note: Radius is half of a diameter. If diameter

is given, divide it by two to get the length of
the radius. If diameter is given, use the second
formula. If radius, use the first formula.
Solution:
𝑃 = 𝜋𝑑
𝑃 = 3.14 (6 𝑚𝑚)
𝑷 = 𝟏𝟖. 𝟖𝟒 𝒎𝒎

iv. APPLICATION
