AIM:
Redevelopment of a Government park in Shenoy Nagar by developing a mall pertaining to
the residents of the area; this typology shall be proposed underground.

OBJECTIVE:
To propose a park that will cater to the immediate residents of the locality. The access to the
metro station shall be now connected to the floor space of the proposed underground mall.

SCOPE:
The thesis shall follow the guidelines provided by the USGBC and/or IGBC and shall pertain
to the LEED principles and certification. This is to coincide with the already existing metro
station underground’s LEED Gold certification. The proposal is to create a space underground
that will be accessed from the metro platforms thereby increasing the economic status of the
area.

JUSTIFICATION:
During the construction of the underground CMRL metro line, the then park was destroyed
and has faced lot of degradation in terms of space. This was primarily used as an open play
area pertaining to the local residents. Post the completion the park was not restored and thus
the people are now left with no play area. The CMRL has now proposed to redesign the park
area and to develop an underground mall as per the tender documents submitted in February,
2018. The thesis focuses on this live project and works on the same to produce a proposal.

ABOUT SITE:
The site is located in Shenoy Nagar, Chennai. The site was originally planned to be a
neighbourhood park cum open play area. The site area was around 9.1 Acres and had
around 300 trees. The park was renovated in 2007 at a cost of ₹64 Lakhs. However, the
park was closed owing to the construction of the CMRL project. As mentioned, the site was
destroyed post completion of the project, now requiring a proposal to better the same.
The site now is mostly un-usable with the CMRL station occupying around 1/4th the area. It is
situated in-between a circular roadway, “Pulla Avenue”; giving access from all sides of the
site.
