I used Planbook to plan this week:

Monday - Friday: Still same writing lesson from last week (attached)

Wednesday:

Whole group lesson

What: I can sequence stories by characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end
Why: So I can retell a story
How: I will know I have it when I can use the beginning, middle, ends trains during retelling in
the correct place.
I will show the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnoJwfnzmqA
I ask students to come quietly to the rug.
I will have an anchor chart up with BME on it.
Then, we will quickly review what character & settings are in a story.
I will explain that the beginning can often have the character and setting in it. The middle is what
happens next in the story this COULD be the problem. The end is the finish the story, this is
sometimes the solution.
Then I will read Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. Before I will ask them to think about what
they think is the B M and E while I read.
I will use a gynzy with BME TRAINS on them. This will show them they can use the trains to
help them identify the B,M,E and we will go over the B M and E of Tops and bottoms.
Each student will be given a B,M, and E train they can use to hold up during the respective parts
of the story.
I will retell the Tops and Bottoms story while they use their trains so that I can see if they
understand.

Thursday:

Whole group lesson

What: I can sequence stories by characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end
Why: So I can retell a story
How: I will know I have it when I can sequence a retell by showing the correct beginning,
middle, or end train at the appropriate time.

I will call the students to the carpet and we will review out BME anchor chart to refresh what
BME is and how we can determine which parts of the story are the Beginning, Middle, and End.
WHY would we want to retell a story? - to show we understand or to tell our friends about the
story
HOW - we only want to retell the important parts
Show video about retelling with goldilocks and three bears.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w33-m8-geuM
I will tell students to listen for words like "In the beginning, next, and at the end"
After I will pull up the gynzy page and the students will have the opportunity to retell Goldilocks
using their trains. I will read the words to each part of the BME and the students will raise their
hand holding which train they think that part of the story belongs to, Beginning, Middle, or End.
I will do the same with the pictures. As they are answering I will drag the picture or words to the
correct train on gynzy.

Friday:
Whole group lesson
What: I can sequence stories by characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end
Why: So I can retell a story
How: I will know I have it when I can sequence a retell by using pictures.

We will watch a video of a song that tells us what each part of retelling a story is. (We will watch
this everyday from now on to get the song stuck in our head so we remember!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_nePjWXecQ
We will look back over our anchor chart and remind each other and our friends what parts of the
story we need to retell and what each of the parts are.
Character, Setting, Beginning, Middle & End.
We will watch a read aloud of "Can I play too" By Mo Williams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKUTyGoAg8c
Then we will try and retell the story using pictures (attached). We will cut them out and put them
in the correct beginning, middle, and end part of the ice cream cone(picture attached).
We will go over this and explain why we chose which picture for each train.
This will show that we can retell a story by using pictures.

If technology is not working. We will read a different book and retell it using our train cut-outs
from yesterday.
