Thesis Statement: The death penalty should be promulgated because it is a crime-deterrent, a


lawful slaying and a proportionate punishment.

I. INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study

A. The Death Penalty is a penalty or sanctioned given to a person who is killed


by the state or by the country as a punishment for a crime.
B. The death penalty is a government sanction that could peace and order to our
country or a hindrance to the development of our country.
C. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, independent studies in
several states, including Oklahoma, reveal that capital punishment is actually
far more expensive to administer than life imprisonment. This is due in part
to the lengthy appeals process, which still sends innocent people to death
row on a fairly regular basis.

II. BODY
Views in Death Penalty

A. St. Tomas Aquinas. The death penalty is worthy and healthful that he be killed
in order to safeguard the common good, since "a little leaven corrupted the
whole lump” (1 Cor. 5:6).
B. St. Augustine. This is the punishment that forbids the killing of a human being
establishes certain exceptions, as when God authorizes killing by a general
law or when He gives an explicit commission to an individual for a limited
time.
C. Retentionists. This punishment should be retained for it is the retribution,
incapacitation, and deterrence to the crime.
