This paper proposes transformer-less grid-connected Single Ended Primary Inductance

Converter (SEPIC) for photovoltaic generation systems. The photo voltaic cell can be made up
of thin-film solar cell array and the Material used for manufacturing solar cells are
polycrystalline si and Mon crystalline si, Using this in solar cell array module enhances the
potential to generate the electric power for longer time. The proposed power converter consists
of some power electronic switches which are simultaneously used for SEPIC and another
converter is (DC to AC ) inverter, SEPIC is one of the DC-DC converter and this output voltage
are greater then or less then the input voltage and SEPIC is controlled by the duty cycle of the
converters. The proposed converter can be used for inverting (DC to AC) voltage which can be
connected to any type of loads.

Power systems are developing very fast nowadays both in size and complexity. This situation is a
challenge for early event detection. By using big data architecture it is easy to handle this
challenge. Random matrix theory (RMT -MP Law and Ring law) and empirical spectral density
(ESD) are used in power flow analysis and fault detection for the renewable energy system.

The motive of the project is to automate the sewage cleaning process in drainage, to protect the
biodiversity. A study recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
(PNAS) found that at least 88 percent of the Earth’s water surface is polluted with plastic debris.
The result is not just a number, it says the contamination level of water. All the plastic wastes are
of less density and so they float. The wastes also block the water path at narrow regions. The
floating waste reduces the absorption amount of sunlight by water which results in imbalance of
aquatic system. The reduction of this level of contamination is a very difficult one. And we
cannot employ humans to clean the floating wastes because it may cause severe problems. We
can overcome this problem by using a machine in that field. Our project is about automatic
sewage cleaning machine, which can be used to clean the solid floating wastes that may be
plastic or any other lighter waste materials. There are two parts mechanical & electronics.
Mechanical system performs the lifting, moving & throws the waste by the power of motor.
Electronics part of this controls the speed, frequency of the mechanical components. Keywords:

A Novel Fuzzy Based PWM Predictive Current Control for PMSM Drive

RVS College of Engg. and Technology, 2Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Erode, India

The torque control performance of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is the
main factor in order to improve the fast and stable current inner loop. With the accurate
mathematical model of the motor, the fast-dynamic response can be achieved by the dead-beat
model predictive control strategy. In steady state real time system, the model parameter in
predictive controller create the static error or oscillations. This paper proposes a novel fuzzy
based PWM predictive current control for PMSM drive. The control strategy contained a
predictive controller, a proportional integral compensation link, a magnetic flux observer and a
fuzzy controller. The fuzzy algorithm can be used to regulate the result of compensation link by
weight coefficient in real time based on the operation state of the motor and the model parameter
mismatch of the controller. The traditional Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation based current
control is compared with this dynamic performance of proposed method. When the model
parameter mismatch of controller is occurred, the weight of the proportional integral
compensation link is enhanced, and the static error or oscillation of the motor system can be
eliminated.

The quasi-Z-source inverter (QZSI) is a single stage power converter derived from the Zsource
inverter topology, employing an impedance network which couples the source and the inverter to
achieve voltage boost and inversion. A new carrier based pulse width modulation (PWM)
strategy for the(QZSI) which gives a significantly high voltage gain compared to the traditional
PWM techniques is implemented. This technique employs sine wave as both carrier and
reference signal, with which the simple boost control for the shoot-through states is integrated to
obtain an output voltage boost. The conventional triangular wave carrier used in simple boost
control technique is replaced by sine wave, which improves the shoot-through duty ratio for a
given modulation index. The conventional perturb and observe maximum power point tracking
algorithm is modified for QZSI and used along with the PWM technique for tracking the
maximum power from PV. All the simulations are done using MATLAB. Hardware
implementation and Microcontroller programming are done.

Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

Now a day the population are growing and the need for new and alternate sources of energy is
increasing day by day. In this modern society, people are switching to renewable resources and
sustainable energies. As like the solar and wind energy we can also generate power by using
urine which contains 95 percent of water 2 percent of urea and 3 percent of other components.
Nitrogen, Oxygen, Hydrogen are present in urea (CH4N2O).Hydrogen alone is taken in the
process of electrolysis using microbial electrolysis cell (MEC). The extracted hydrogen enters to
gas cylinder in which the gas is stored in liquid form. Then the hydrogen gas is moved to liquid
borax cylinder which removes the moisture content. Now, pure Hydrogen gas is produced. The
pure hydrogen gas acts as a fuel to produce electric power. Today, the urine- based power
generator generates enough energy for a smart phone to text, browse the internet, make short
phone calls and to glow a light (watts). Element as Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorus can be
locked into new biomass, thus removed from the solution, resulting in replacing without
environmental pollution.

The design and implementation of ON/OFF, proportional and PID temperature controller
systems process is done using LABVIEW software. It includes data acquisition, data processing
and the display of data. An ON/OFF controller is designed to measure temperature and the
LABVIEW virtual instrument is used to control the temperature and ensure that the temperature
does not go beyond a certain set point. Feedback control is used in industry to improve and
regulate response and result of a number of processes and systems. In this paper, the
development and design of a feedback control system that keeps the temperature of the process
at a predefined set point is presented. A proportional, integral, and derivative controller is
implemented using LabVIEW. The designed controller can have very good accuracy than all
other temperature controller as it incorporates PID controllers.

In this paper, the power control if doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used in wind power
conversion system is done by a method called indirect power control method.
In this designed system, the rotor voltages of DFIG are controlled based on active and reactive
power at each switching period. An experimental test bed has been established in order to test the
proposed control method. This experimental setup consists of a DFIG, induction motor with a
variable speed driver and a bidirectional back to back converter marked with rotor side control
(RSC) and grid side control (GSC). In order to control the system, a TMS320F2812
microcontroller is also used. The proposed control algorithm is done using MATLAB and
SIMULINK program. The outcome of the experiment shows that stator’s active and reactive
power of DFIG successfully follow the reference active and reactive power value under different
operating condition such as for different speed of rotor and active and reactive powers. It is
concluded that harmonic disorders of stator current are under the behavior of proposed control
algorithm.

Nowadays most of the conventional sources are been converted into to natural resources to
produce pollution free power throughout the year. Most commonly use natural sources are sun
and wind energy. Light energy from the sun is converted into electrical energy with the help of
photovoltaic arrays as sun’s light energy is abundant in nature. Due to losses in Photovoltaic
array maximum power is not obtained. In order to obtain a maximum power from solar PV
system various maximum power point tracking techniques are used. Here perturb and observe
(P&O) and fuzzy logic algorithms are implement to obtain maximum power. These techniques
are simulated using MATLAB/simulink. Fuzzy logic algorithm obtains maximum power than
perturb and observe technique.

Nowadays, buying and searching at huge malls is turning into a daily activity in subway cities.
We can see even a lot of once there are special offers and discount. People purchase totally
different things and place them in trolley. After total purchase one needs to go to cashier for
payments. The cashier prepares the victimization barcode reader that could be a time
overwhelming method and leads to long queues at charge counters. Our project is targeted to
minimize the queue at a billing counter in a shopping complex. The trolley does the same by
displaying the total price of the product kept inside the cart. In this way the customer can directly
pay the amount at the billing counter and leave the commodities he/she bought. The hardware is
based on Arduino, RFID reader module, FID card and buzzer. It eliminates the traditional
scanning of products at the counter and in turn speeds up the entire process of shopping, also
with this system the customer shall plan know the amount to be paid and hence accordingly plan
his shopping only buying the essential commodities resulting in enhanced savings. Since the
entire process of billing is automated it reduces the possibility of human error substantially. Also
the system has a feature to delete the scanned products by customer to further optimize the
shopping experience.

Fire-fighting robots are useful in situations where it is too dangerous or has difficult access for
firefighters. Modular design based on proximity, vision and IR sensors has been incorporated
into a fire-fighting model. The robot sprays water from manipulator to extinguish flame.
Software consists of integrated tracking, obstacle avoidance, flame detection and motion
algorithms. Through testing, it is possible to run in a realistic scene simulated in the lab and to
detect and extinguishment the flame. With the advent of technology, humans are replaced with
robots in life-threatening situations. We aim to design a robot capable of detecting and

Energy management is a process by which a sector or an organisation can effectively manage

how much energy they produce and how to control, monitor and conserve as much energy as
they can while also generating enough energy to meet the demand of the customers. Energy
conservation is the effort made to reduce the consumption of energy by using less of an energy
service. This can be achieved either by using energy more efficiently (using less energy for a
constant service) or by reducing the amount of service used (for example, by driving less).
Energy conservation is a part of the concept of Eco-sufficiency. Energy conservation reduces the
need for energy services and can result in increased environmental quality, national security,
personal financial security and higher savings. It is at the top of the sustainable energy hierarchy.
It also lowers energy costs by preventing future resource depletion.

This project is about the proper water billing system for people who are living in apartments.
Nowadays a common water tank is shared among people in the apartment or keeping of separate
water tank for each house. In these systems, there are many problems arises like improper water
billing and there is no proper data management system to maintain the data like quantity of water
consumed by each people in the apartment, corresponding cost water consumed. To rectify these
problems we developed a system that continuously measures the amount of water consumed
using a water flow sensor. If the consumed water quantity exceeds a particular value the Arduino
controller calculates the corresponding amount for that extra water. At the same time, a Buzzer
will ring and an alarm will blink continuously to indicate the consumer about the extra
consumption of water. The data like quantity of extra water consumed and charges for that extra
water is stored in a cloud using the Wi-Fi module. This cloud will act as a data management
system and advantage of using cloud storage is that increased security of stored data and we can
access that data anywhere from the world at any time.

In this paper, a novel Double-Input-Single Output (DISO) Boost Converter topology for
renewable energy systems is proposed. Double-input Single-output converters provide flexibility
in terms of the choice and the availability of power source. The designed converter has the
advantages of simple configuration and fewer switches. In this boost converter, load is connected
to two different sources. The proposed converter has four operating modes. Depending upon the
voltage levels, the two sources are connected to the load as individually or in series combination.
Snubber Assisted Zero Voltage and Zero Current Transition (SAZZ) topology is implemented at
the switching of MOSFET so the stress occurs during the switching is avoided. It also reduces
the switching losses. The load connected is operated flexibly with two sources. The proposed
converter has ability to produce constant output voltage from the fluctuating DC sources. It is
done by designing a PID controller. The output voltage is taken as feedback and compared with a
reference voltage. The error obtained is given as input to the controller and appropriate PWM
pulses are generated to control the semiconductor switch. The circuit is simulated in
MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results are obtained.

Recent concern towards environmental and fire safety of transformer operation has led to the
development of natural ester based liquid insulation for power transformers. Recent
advancements in nano technology confirm that the nano modified liquid insulation provides
superior dielectric and thermal properties. Statistical analysis of the dielectric properties of nano
modified liquid dielectrics is very important to qualify them for high voltage insulation
applications. In this work, experimental works are carried out to understand the lightning
impulse (LI) and breakdown voltage (BDV) characteristics of corn oil filled with SiO- 2 nano
fillers at different wt% concentration such as 0.01%, 0.05% and 0.1%. LI tests are performed at
needle/plane and needle/sphere electrode geometry with standard 1.2/50 µs waveform at both
positive and negative polarity. Weibull distribution analysis of LI breakdown voltage values are
evaluated at different experimental conditions. BDV tests are carried out at different electrode
gap distances such as 1, 2.5, 4 and 5 mm. Scale parameter and shape parameter of Weibull
distribution of BDV values are computed. It is mostly observed that addition of nano - SiO2 filler
at lower wt% concentration in the range of 0.01–0.05% has substantial effect in enhancing the LI
and BDV characteristics of corn oil. Improvement in LI and BDV characteristics gives confident
that nano modified corn oil may be considered for outdoor transformer applications.

There are two types of external variations which change the operating point of a photovoltaic
(PV) system, one is environmental change caused by variation in temperature and/or irradiance
and the other is load change. The variation in environmental condition changes the PV array
characteristic itself whereas the load variation changes the operating point within the same curve.
Each type of change can be uniquely identified using history of PV voltage and current
measurements. Using the above fact, this paper proposes a fast maximum power point tracking
(MPPT) technique for PV array coupled with boost converter. The proposed method determines
MPP in a single step by finding out temperature and irradiance at which the PV array is
operating. Furthermore, based on the measured values of PV voltage and current, inductor
current and load voltage are also calculated, eliminating the need for additional sensors.
Supervised Power Control Technique (SPCT) is implemented to track inductor current to its
desired value and find the desired duty cycle to reach MPP. The proposed method is validated by
both simulation and experimental results under varying temperature, irradiance and load
condition. A comparison with the existing MPPT method is also presented in order to show the
efficiency of the proposed method.

Energy management is nowadays a subject of great importance and complexity. It consists in

choosing among a set of sources able to produce energy that will give energy to a set of loads by
minimizing losses and costs. The sources and loads are heterogeneous, distributed and the
reaction of the system, the choice of sources, must be done in real-time to avoid power outage.
The goal of this paper is to present a system able to self- regulate a heterogeneous set of power
sources and loads organized as a coherent group of entities that is called micro- grid, in order to
optimize several criteria such as: cost and efficiency. This system is based upon the Multi-Agent
Systems paradigm. Each micro-grid entity is modelled as an autonomous agent able to interact
and with it owns decision making mechanism. It takes into account the characteristics of the
source or load types it belongs to and self-organizes with other agents in order to globally
optimize the given criteria.

To control the systems which operate in a repetitive mode is known to be difficult task. For
example systems like robotic manipulators that are required to repeat a given task and chemical
batch processes. This can be overcome by iterative learning control (ILC) method. In this article
DC motor model is discussed for controlling the speed of the motor by the design of an ILC
algorithm. And it is compared with the conventional PID algorithm. The ILC algorithm is
implemented for the minimum and non-minimum phase system. The resulting response, absolute
and integral absolute errors are plotted with respect to time. Z-N tuning method is used to
implement the PID control. The performance of the DC motor has been evaluated by comparing
the Integral Square Error (ISE), Integral Absolute Error (IAE) and Integral Time Absolute Error
(ITAE) with the conventional PID controller.

The purpose of this work is to determine sensor fault in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor
(CSTR) process using Unknown Input Observer (UIO). For any practical systems, there will be
unavoidable disturbances and uncertainties, which leads to deviations in the plant output.
Therefore it is essential in the design of any fault diagnosis system to consider these effects.
CSTR equipped with a mixing device, and it runs at a steady state with a continuous flow of
reactants and products. In CSTR, the outlet concentration is controlled by changing the
volumetric flow rate. Initially, the data of the process were collected and preprocessed. Finally,
the state space model was obtained using system identification tool in MATLAB. Pole placement
technique is used for designing UIO for the system affected by input disturbances. The designed
unknown input observer is used for generating a residual signal, and it is a deviation of plant
output and observer output. The residual signal is zero during the fault-free condition. When a
fault present, there is a deviation in the residual signal. In this work bias fault, drift fault was
detected. Output observer also was designed in this work to highlight the feature of the unknown
input observer. Finally, it is observed that the Unknown Input Observer has eliminated the input
disturbances than that of output observer and faults was also detected effectively.

Boneless / Airborne Wind Energy System – A Different Approach

PG Scholar, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engg

Motion of air gives us Wind. Air in motion arises from a pressure difference. On a global basis
one primary forcing function causing surface winds from the poles toward the equator is
convective circulation. Solar radiation heats the air near the equator, and this low density heated
air is buoyed up. At the surface it is displaced by cooler more dense higher pressure air flowing
from the poles. In the upper atmosphere near the equator the air thus tend to flow back toward
the poles and away from the equator. The net result is a global convective circulation with
surface wins from north to south in the northern hemisphere. Among novel technologies for
producing electricity from renewable resources, a new class of wind energy converters has been
conceived under the name of Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWESs).This newly generating
system employs flying tethered wings or aircraft in order to reach winds blowing at atmosphere
layers that are inaccessible by traditional wind turbines where wind speed is high.

Driver drowsiness and fatigue are among the important causes of road accidents. Every year,
they increase the number of deaths and fatalities injuries globally. In this context, it is important
to use new technologies to design and build systems that are able to monitor drivers and to
measure their level of attention during the entire process of driving. Here we consider vehicle
safety as well as vehicle driver identification. Among the person identification techniques, face
recognition is one of the most addressed techniques due to its naturality as a biometric trait. Here
we use a smart band along with a dash cam to monitor the driver. A vehicle can identify and
verify the driver by matching the facial biometric trait stored in the smart watch and the once
collected from the detected face. The matching of both verifies the smart watch owner and the
vehicle driver is the same. The alertness of the driver is determined by monitoring the
abnormalities in the heart rate change and provides warning alerts. There by working as both a
security and safety feature.

This paper is a novel new way for municipal waste segregation is presently done by rag pickers.
This mainly separates all the waste including harmful hospital waste and containers, containing
harmful heavy metals and is separated by bare hands which lead to adverse chronic health effects
like tuberculosis, cancer and heavy metal poisoning which may lead to decreased Standard of
living, decreased longevity and also after effects to generation of children born to the affected
parents. The proposed method of medical waste segregation of separating out metals, recyclable
and non-recyclable waste materials using arduino controller. The waste will be fed to the
conveyer belt using automatic feed system which consists of hopper proximity IR sensor(4.5V-
6V), Dc motor (10rpm,12V), this IR sensor will detect the waste material on the conveyer belt
and the metal sensors which are clamped below the conveyer belt will sense the metal particles
such as needles, razor , surgical knifes etc and in turn stop the conveyer belt .A push arm
attached with the machine which separates the metal from the waste and it deposits it in a bin
.the whole process is detected and controlled by using powerful, adaptive arduino
microcontroller. Rapid increase in population has led to improper waste management in metro
and urban cities which has resulted in spreading of diseases. It is estimated as 2.02 billion tons of
municipal medical waste was generated in 2016. The segregation, handling, transport and
disposal of this waste must be managed efficiently to minimize the risk to public and
environment.

For more accuracy and easy way of obtaining output we use some basic mathematical
operations. Squaring circuits are used in various semiconductor applications like FIR filters,
binary calculators, animations, etc. Speed is a mandatory characteristic in squaring circuits. This
mechanism of squaring circuit would improve device utilization. Basically, squaring in
electronic circuits are performed by multipliers. Thus no separate hardware for squaring circuits
are used. In order to reduce the increasing compositeity of digital devices in multipliers, a
separate squaring architecture is required. Also when using of multipliers it involves
approximately a large number of gates and execution speed will be more. So we go for the novel
and dedicated squaring circuit without using multipliers.

A distributed transformer system is developed and constructed based on Ardunio that is used for
monitoring the voltage, current of a distribution transformer in a substation and to protect the
system from the rise in mentioned parameters. Providing the protection to the distribution
transformer can be accomplished by shutting down the entire unit. Furthermore it is capable of
recognizing the break downs caused due to overload and over voltage. The design generally
consists of two units, one is transmitter and display unit, called as monitoring unit and another in
the Main station called as controlling unit. The transmitter and the display units in the substation
is where the voltage, current and temperature are monitored continuously by Ardunio and is
displayed through the display unit. A GSM modem is also used to inform the control station
about switching. The ultimate objective is to monitor the electrical parameters continuously and
hence to guard the burning of distribution transformer or power transformer due to the
constraints such as overloaded. If any of these values increases beyond the limit then the entire
unit is shut down by the designed controlling units.

Rubber tapping is the process of extraction of latex from rubber trees. Rubber tree tapping is
considered to be a skill oriented job. During the tapping process, the taper has to make a
downward half spiral incision on the tree bark to extract the white milky liquid called latex. On a
typical day, a rubber tapper has to tap about 500 to 800 rubber trees manually with a tapping tool
within a specified time of the day. Availability of skilled laborers who could accomplish this
mammoth task is getting scarce as days pass by. Even though cheap unskilled labor is available,
without appropriate time and training they would end up damaging the tree. The automated
rubber tapering machine designed here would replace the manual labor required for the tapping
process. Also with a clock feature to control the timing of the tapping process, higher yield of
rubber latex could be obtained.

Design and Fabrication of Triple Pipe heat Exchanger with spiral Twisted
Tape
Ibrahim Sheriff K. A., Pradeep S. V, Neethivendhan S, Praveen Kumar S and Prasanth S
UG Student, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kongu Engineering College, Erode

The triple pipe heat exchanger is a modified constructive version of double pipe heat exchanger
by adding an intermediate tube. Thus, triple pipe heat exchanger is constructed by three
concentric tubes and it is possible to have the different lengths. The triple pipe heat exchangers
have some advantages compared to tube in tube heat exchangers, as larger surface area for heat
transfer per unit length and higher overall heat transfer coefficients. The thermal contact between
the fluids is increased by adding a intermediate tube. Also, by using these types of heat
exchangers technical and economic advantages due to the possibility of heat exchange between
three fluids in one equipment can be obtained. The heat exchangers with three concentric tubes
are used specially in heating processes in food industry and cooling processes like
pasteurization/sterilization, congelation and concentration. In addition to this, method of
augmentation is introduced. For implementing active technique, it is required external power
such as electric or acoustic fields and surface vibration, whereas while adopting the passive
techniques require a special surface geometry, swirl/vortex flow devices, fluid additives are the
various types of inserts. Here, the twisted tapes are introduced. The passive techniques are better
than the active techniques because the manufacturing process swirl formation inserts is simple
and can be easily implemented in an existing heat exchanger. Moreover, the passive techniques
can play an important role in the intensification of heat transfer. Also, insulation should be
provided to arrest the temperature within the heat exchanger.

The world we live cannot act without ELECTRICITY, electricity makes us do our works in
better and in faster way than any other sources. The most important part in electricity is
transmission and distribution, without which we cannot afford electricity to our domestic,
commercial needs. The workers who are working in transmission and distribution but ensure
their safety, the safety of human lives is most important than our sophistication. Safety of
workers in transmission and distribution is the most hectic problem at present. Daily average of 2
to 3 workers (line man etc.,) is losing their valuable life due electrical accident in distribution
side. The main causes of these accidents are due to the improper communication between staff in
transmission and labor’s in distribution side. This paper gives the solution to the lives of line
man, in this control (On and OFF) of electrical lines is managed by IOT, which is under the
supervision of lineman, who is retrieving the fault occurred in electrical line. From this solution,
the line man can work comfortably in electric line during any kind of fault by switching off the
power supply using IOT. This system can be easily be implemented at Substation, Factories, and
House hold uses. By implementing this system, we can ensure the safety of the lineman. In this
system there will be a current sensor which measures the current and we can also set a value of
maximum current to flow, if there is excess of current flow or any kind of short circuit the relay
will automatically trips off and cuts off the power supply.

PG Student, 2Assistant Professor, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamnagalam

This paper presents a generalized formulation for the computer-aided analysis of induction motor
driving a submersible pump. In general Electric Submersible Pump incorporates an induction
motor and a pump, having centrifugal action. The pump is powered by the DC source especially
by photovoltaic modules. In this case the insolation level of the sun is not constant at all time, it
is necessary to predict the pump’s performance. To do so, mathematical modeling and simulation
of the electric submersible pump is proposed here. The dynamic model of the induction motor
consists of an electrical sub-model to implement the three-phase to two-axis (3/2) d-q
transformation of stator voltage and current calculation, a torque sub-model to calculate the
developed electromagnetic torque, and a mechanical sub-model to yield the rotor speed. The
submersible pump is modeled with the inputs as shaft speed, torque and head. The output
variable is chosen to be discharge. With all these system modules, the electrical and mechanical
condition of the pump under different operating condition is simulated with Matlab/Simulink
model.
