When I woke up people were screaming.

I didn't know where they are coming

from. Some screams sound like I knew them and others sounded like strangers. I looked around
the small room. There is only a bed and a door. The bed was really old. Rust starting to cake
itself onto the steal that lined the edge. The room was white, but an off white. As if the paint was
deteriorating. Maybe it could be a hospital room. I walked over to the door which had a small
window. As I looked out I could see that the hall was rotting away. I felt a small sinking feeling in
my gut. I somehow know I need to find my friends, Jay and Ben.
I tried to open the door but it's locked. I looked around the room for something
that I could smash the window with. The leg to the bed looked like it could easily be broken off,
because of the rust that was eating away. I went over to it and with a quick kick, it fell off, the
bed made a thud noise when it hit the floor. I grab the leg and take it over to the door. I hit the
window as hard as I could. It didn’t break, but there is damage. I did it again and again, until the
window shattered.
I dropped the leg and reached out of the window. I could feel the handle of the
door, but I was too short to turn the knob. I looked around the room thinking of every possible
solution. I sat there thinking for maybe two minutes, until I thought of a way to use the sheets. I
grab the sheets off of the bed and I slowly dropped it out of the window but still having a hold on
one end. As I feel it hit the knob I quickly pulled up. The sheets stick around the handle. I slowly
started to twist the sheet enough to get a good grip on the handle. The door opened into a
hallway. The sound of people screaming got louder, and suddenly I heard them hitting doors but
I couldn't see anyone in the other rooms.
I walked down the long dark hallway. There was this one room which had the
same smashed window like mine. Could this be Jay’s room? He is really smart when it comes to
life or death situations. I went into the room. The room was fairly the same as mine. White wall,
a bed that was rusting. Olnt difference was that this room had a table. On the table there were
bloody scissors placed on top.
“JAY?” I screamed outside of the room, but no answer.
I’m running down the hall screaming Jay’s name. After what seemed like forever,
someone answered me.
“Maeve?,” the voice screamed back, “I’m by room number 136!”
I look at the room number I was at, room number 100. If I keep running I should
find him. As I passed by each room I look at each number that is hanging on the door. All of
them were counting up. Soon I find Jay standing by room 136. I would’ve thought that Ben
would’ve been here with him, but there was no sign.
“Where’s Ben?” I asked Jay.
He shrugs his shoulders, "I thought he would've been with you." We walked down
the hallway looking in every room. While I was looking in this one room, there was a loud Bang!
I quickly turned around and looked at Jay.
“What was...” Jay said getting cut off by the same the same bang. “Is it me or
does it seem like that sound is getting closer?”
“Run!” I screamed. Bang! Bang! Bang! The sound felt like it was following us.
“Wait,” I said, “We can’t just keep running.” It was right around the corner. Bang!
Bang! Bang! “Follow me,” I said. We run back towards the room that had the scissors in them. I
walk over to the table, they were gone. I froze where I’m standing.
I could hear the banging as it was getting worst. It sounded like it was around the
corner. I started to think that this was how we were going to die. In a creepy abandoned building
that smells of rotting corpses. It was growing louder. No I couldn’t die like this, I have so much
more to do in life. I grabbed Jay by the wrist and pulled him along with me.
We turned a corner and at that moment everything seemed to go slow. We see a
man towering over Ben. In his hands were those scissors. Those bloody scissors. The man
slowly shoves it into Ben’s stomach.
What just happened? Did I just witness... a murder? This can't be happening… We are
supposed to be at home, not in this building, and now Ben has just been stabbed by a creepy
man. This can't be happening!
The man vanishes in thin air. Jay and I run over to Ben, he is holding his stomach. “You
guys really should just get out of here,” he said struggling for breath. We couldn’t leave him. I
would never be able to live with myself if we just left him.
“Nope come on, get up,” I force my arm underneath his shoulder. Jay taking the other
side. On the count of three we both lifted Ben off the ground. He screamed in pain. Blood
violently starts to bleed out of his stomach. “Put him back!” I scream over Ben.
We set him back down and his hand went back to his stomach. I slowly start to lift his
hand off of the wound. There was a big cut mark from the top of his ribs down to his hip. How
could we not have seen that? “Okay, well we can’t move you until we get that wound taken care
of.” I start to look around, “Jay stay with him while I look for something.” I get up and start to
move things around.
A couple of minutes later I hear Jay say my name right behind me.“Maeve, We need to
hurry. We need to get out of here before whatever was making that sound finds us.”
I stop looking around, feeling defeated, I turn to Jay, “Look Jay, there is no one else here
with us. You heard the screams, you heard the banging, and yet still no one. It’s just us!” As I
finished the sentence the banging started again, this time right behind us. BANG, BANG,
BANG. Still in the rhythm of threes. Me and Jay look at each other in fear. Jay was the first one
to turn around, I shortly followed. The sound is getting closer. I tap Jay on the shoulder and
point over to Ben. We both began to slowly and quietly walked over.
BANG, BANG, BANG. Was he coming back to finish the job? He turned the corner with
his sinister smile and blood soaked hands. My heart dropped.
