Solution: A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of their digits is divisible by 9. Now the sum of the digits is
equal to 26. To be able to make it divisible by 9, we can make it 27 or 36. Since we can only add one digit, we
can only make it 27 by adding 1.

Solution: There are 5 digits and it is the smallest even number more than 40,000 so, the ten thousands digit is
4 and the ones digit is even making it 4xxx4. We want to minimize the number so we place 1 in the hundreds
digit, 5 in the tens digit, and 7 in the ones digit. So, the number is 41574.

Solution:
1 dm is equal to 10 cm. So, this is the ratio of 0.25 cm to 90 cm. By dividing both numbers by 0.25, the ratio is
1: 360.

24.) Rita has 30m of ribbon. She cut 55 pieces each 2.6 dm long. How many meters of ribbon remain?
Solution: 55 × 2.6 dm = 143 dm. Since 10 dm = 1m, 143 dm = 14.3 m.
30m – 14.3 m = 15.7m.
Answer: 15.7m

Below are the 2004 Grade 4 MTAP Elimination questions with solutions/answers (numbers 26 – 50). You can
read items 1 – 25 here. Although these are old questions, you can still use them as reviewer since the coverage
of the quiz has not changed. I have written the solution to relatively hard problems, but I leave the easy ones to
the coach and the student.
Note that even though reasonable care was given to the accuracy of the solutions, the solver is only human.

Solution: The area of the path is 12 × 1.5 = 18 sq. m. Dividing 18 by 4, we get 4.5

41.) A square garden has a perimeter of 56 m. What is its area?
Answer: 196 sq. m.
42.) A tank is 12 dm long, 8 dm wide and 10 dm deep. If = 1 liter, how many liters of water does the
tank contain when full?

Solution
There are 2/5 × 975 = 390 students who take the school bus.
There are 1/5 × 975 – 25 = 195 – 25 = 170 who have private cars.
So, There are 975 – 390 – 170 = 415 students who take public transportation.

Answer: 415
48.) Aida made 12 more sampaguita garlands than Anna. Together, they made 160 garlands. How many did
Aida make?

Solution: We subtract 12 from the total number of garlands and the would have made equal number of
garlands. So, 160 – 12 = 148 and 148/2 = 74.
Answer: 84
49.) Nita has ₱78.50; Rosa has twenty pesos less than twice as much. How much money do the two girls have
together?

Solution
Rosa has 2 × 78.50 – 20 = 157 – 20 = 147
Combining their money we have 147 + 78.50 = 225.50

50.) A grass lawn is 80 m long and 68 m wide. Four rectangular flower plots, each 15 m by 10 m, are found
near each corner. What is the area covered by the grass?
