1. The Concept of Human Development is a “Social Construction”.

According to Lev Vygotsky social interaction precedes development. According to him cognition
and consciousness are the end product of socialization and social behavior. All cognitive functions
originate in social interactions and that learning did not simply comprise assimilation and
accommodation of new knowledge. According to Vygotsky, humans use tools that develop from
a culture, such as speech and writing, to mediate their social environments. Watson the father of
behaviorism believed that environment has a role in creating the human condition. How we
develop and learn to think primarily is a function of social and cultural environment in which we
are reared like family, community, and other social institutions.

2. What are the kinds/types of influences and how does one make different from the other?

The types of influences are Normative Age – Graded Influences, Normative History – Graded
Influences, and Non – Normative Influences. Normative Age – Graded Influences occurs in similar
ways than others and it affects most people for it happens to most. Normative History – Graded
Influences are influences that a group of people experienced. The historical event that took place
affects the lives of people living that certain place. Non – Normative influences are the experiences
an individual faced or had that shaped or created an effect his/her life.
