Exercise I: (Total of 52 points: 49 points for correct answers + 3 points for correct
allocation of adjectives)
In English you can form adjectives with the suffixes –ed and –ing. -ED refers to a person and –ING
refers to an activity or to the fact that produces the emotion. For example:
My little brother is excitED. He saw Spider man. (This sentence is about a person)
For him the film was really excitING. (This sentence is about an activity of fact)
Read these comments about a film and complete the sentences with –ed or –
ing when necessary. Number 1 is an example. Write your answer in the table
at the end of this exercise.
1. “Everyone told me that it was ___, but I was really ___.” (excite, bore)
Answers: EXCITING – BORED
2. “The film had some ___ moments.” (interest)
3. “I was really ___. It was so different from his other films!” (surprise)
4. “There were one or two ___ bits, but in general, it was very ___.” (amuse, bore)
5. “I was really ___ before it started, but I didn’t like it.” (excite)
6. “The story was a bit ___, but the ending was really ___. I cried a lot!” (confuse, move)
7. “This director doesn’t usually make ___ films. I hated it.” (depress)
8. “It was a really long film. I’m very ___!” (tire)
