Foreword

Shout joyfully to the Lord worship the Lord; worship the Lord with cries of
gladness; come before Him with joyful song.
(Psalm 100:1-2)

We are a people who love to give praise and worship to our God. It is but fitting,
for we recognize that the Lors is God, that we belong to Him, and that He is the
one caring for us. We enter into His presence with joy and gratitude, blessing His
name. We are reminded of His steadfast love and faithfulness, which endures
foreever. And in Him is our strength, to carry on our mission of proclaiming Him to
all the lands.
All these we experience as we sing our songs of praise and worship.
May the songs in this Songbook contribute to the vibrancy of our community life,
may they help in drawing you even closer to Lord, and may they give to God the
honor and glory due His name.

THE MUSIC MINISTRY

It's easier to begin by identifying what the ministry of music is not. It is not
just an opportunity to develop one's talents and skills. It is not playing music
for the sake of pleasure and personal fulfillment. It is not a spiritual
opportunity for glamour, prestige or popularity. It is not something "I have to do"
because of my gifts and talents.
The ministry of music is not self or personal need centered. It is not gift or
talent centered. It is not even music centered. IT IS GOD CENTERED.
If it is to be true worship, then it must be acceptable, pleasing and glorifying to
God.
The ministry of music is a SERVICE, to God, to the community and to others. We
acknowledge God is worthy to be praised, worshipped and adored. "Make a joyful
noise to the Lord, all the lands! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His
presence with singing!" (Ps. 100:1-2) We worship God in music because God is most
worthy to be praised, (Ps. 92:1-4; 95:1-2; 149:1-3; 150). We worship Him whether we
feel like it or not, as great and as good as He. In fact, the word, "worship",
comes from the Anglo term, "worth-ship".
As a service to the community, the ministry involves sacrifice and dying to one's
self. There are many hours of practice as needed. There are new songs to be learned
and personal styles to be changed. It means setting aside your preferences in beat,
volume or arrangement for the sake of the common good. The ministry is not to call
attention to itself. In fact, it is to support the community. The songs to be sung
and the styles to be used should be those that the whole community should be able
to participate in the worship of God. Prayerfully discern the songs that are most
helpful to the spiritual life of the community. The music ministry should choose
the right song at the right time for the followira activities:

A. CHRISTIAN LIFE PROGRAM

-Choose songs that are simple and easy to learn. Remember, CLP participants are new
and adjusting to a new culture of expressive worship through vibrant songs of
praise. Simple songs usually have one refrain repeated after each verse that have
the same tune.
-Choose songs that somehow are related to the topic of the talk.
-Choose songs that have evangelistic messages. Songs that tell about what God has
done to us. How he loved us, that He gave His only begotten son Jesus Christ, so
that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have life everlasting.

B. PRAYER MEETING
-Gathering songs are familiar songs that tell everybody to set aside what they are
doing, stop their conversation and sit down. The Lord is waiting for us to begin
our worship.
-Take 10 to 15 minutes to teach a new song. Sing the whole song first. Then teach
the song line by line and let them echo the line. Be sensitive in identifying
difficult tunes so you can repeat teaching the difficult parts only.
-Praise and Worship; (coordinate with the prayer meeting leader) Two (2) Lively
Songs of praise and one (1) slow worship song is the usual pattern. But be flexible
as to start with a slow majestic song then build up, or add another fast song after
the worship song, singing in tongues and after a prophetic exhortation.
-Response Song after a sharing or after a prayer. Always be watchful and attuned to
what the Lord is doing in the prayer meeting and be ready to respond with an
appropriate song.
-Closing Song denotes the central message of the Lord through the Leader's
exhortation, readings, prophecies, prayers and sharing.

THE PRAISEFEST

What is a Praisefest?

One of the greatest blessings in our community is the gift of worship, In our
households, when we pray-over during assemblies, we have been taught that our first
response to all situations is to praise God. It is, therefore, no surprise how the
Praisefest came to evolve.
The Praisefest is an extended worship in celebration of our life and mission in
music. As such it is often used to cap or end anniversaries, conferences and large
gatherings. Since it is a celebration, it is a special form of worship that should
not take the place of our "Assembly or Household type of worship".
Unlike most worships we have in Couples for Christ, the Praisefest is more
structured. Although it is still "Spirit led," the Praisefest is a prepared worship
- meaning the band or music ministry knows more or less what and how the songs are
to be played. In other words, there is a "flow" or "story line" in the way the
songs are arranged and rendered.

The Structure of a Praisefest

The common structure of a Praisefest can be divided into main parts.
The "call to worship" or "exhortation song" - This song helps bring people into the
mood or mindset of worship.
This may be ajoyful-exuberant song that makes people want to dance for the Lord, or
a song that brings people into a solemn stance before the greatness of God.
The second portion is "praise and worship". It follows the format of a usual CFC
worship of a few fast praise songs and one or two slow worship songs that lead into
"singing in tongues/the Spirit".

-Once the congregation has been led into singing in the Spirit, they are more aware
of the presence of the Lord and are more likely to hear His word in their hearts
and through the Praisefest leader.

The third portion is the "reflection". Here the prayer leader may speak a bit more
to guide the people in listening to the Lord. He may ask them to sit or kneel, pray
alone in silence or for each other while the reflection song is being sung.

The fourth part is the "build-up" where one or two semi-fast songs are used as
transition for the last most jubilant part of the worship.

The last portion or "jubilant end" ends the Praisefest in a victorious celebration
of God's healing and goodness. Two to four fast, jubilant worship songs are used in
order to achieve this.

The Mini-Praisefest

The Mini-Praisefest is used to cap a major talk during conferences, aniversaries

and special gatherings. Like the normal Praisefest, it is a celebration of God's
goodness and healing, but is more of a response to the message of the talk. As
such, it does not include the first two parts of the normal Praisefest and picks up
from the reflection song of the talk into the "build-up" and "jubilant ending".
A normal Praisefest would therefore run for about 30-45 minutes, while a Mini-
Praisefest would be 15-30 minutes.

How to Prepare for a Praisefest:

1. Determine what kind of Praisefest you are to do and the circumstances

surrounding it (Will it cap a talk? Is it an anniversary or conference?)
2. Pray. What songs will speak of God's message (e.g. "The Voice", "Sure
Foundation", and "Lord I Lift" will remind those participating that we are God's
people."All My Days" and "Abide" will reafirm that especially as they sing in the
Spirit, "Be Messiah" will impress their need for God as His people. Hopefully, this
will lead them to listen to God's word for them. The rest of the songs will just
make everyone evenmore thankful and victorious)
3. Use the songs in your prayer time. See how they affect you. Most probably, they
will have a similar effect on the community. Note: Make sure that your singing in
the Spirit chords are easy enough to follow This is very important, since it is
easier to lead people into the Lord's presence and of listening to His word after
they have "sung in the spirit". This, in the end, touches and blesses people more
than the words of a prayer leader ever can. Two regular-metered chords(e.g."D-G",
"C-F", etc.) are the easiest and surest way to lead people into "singing in the
Spirit"
4. Musically arrange the songs according to character you need for that particular
portion of the Praisefest: (e.g. If "God Alone" should be solemn,
then have it played at first just in "strings" or "solo piano")
5. Practice the songs. (Leave enough room and flexibility, however, in the
arrangements of the songs and in the number of times you repeat a song for God's
Spirit to work during the actual Praisefest.)

Qualifications of a Praisefest Leader:

1. Prayerful - More than anything, he or she must be prayerful, since it is the

prayer leader who listens to Lord where to bring the people. He/She articulates
God's word and should, in a sense, get into the Lord's presence before anything
else.
2. Has an understanding of music - to be able to interpret the Lord's leading into
music/song.
3. Understands the life and mission of our community in such a way that he can
reaffirm this as he/she leads the Praisefest.
