A Short Journey with Khy

 The memoir is about a short encounter of the writer where she felt something special

towards someone. It all started with a facebook story, the writer is suffering a downing

situation at those times, and suddenly a girl, but not just any girl, it was the girlfriend

of the writer’s friend Nikolai barged in to the writer’s life. In that one reply from the fb

story of the writer, Khy and the writer started a conversation that time not knowing

they’ll be affecting each other’s life. As they’re communication goes by over time,

they’ve gotten so close even with the presence of Khy’s boyfriend Nikolai. They’ve

talked about each other’s lives and shared each other’s sufferings including the fact that

Khy is a suicidal girl. Writer felt something very special about her to the point that she

went to her house one day because Khy is attempting (AGAIN) to commit suicide. For

Khy, the writer saved her life saying “Thank you ate! You just saved a life! You saved

me! Kay kung hindi dahil sayo wala na sana ako ngayon”. From that day on, they’re

feelings with each other grew stronger day by day. They went to a road trip together,

they had bonding, and doing stuffs together, Khy even gave the writer a gift with

handwritten letters, lamp, and a keychain. Their sweetness grew and the “kilig”

moments of the writer with Khy intensify. It came to a point that Nikolai and the

writer’s friendship started to fade away. They fought since Khy chose the writer over

her boyfriend. This made the writer decide to distance herself to Khy, it was probably

the most hurtful thing to do but it is also the right decision to make. They remain friends

but not the same as way before just like the writer’s friendship with her friend Nikolai.

When Khy was requesting the writer to bond because she’ll be going back to Cagayan

De Oro but the writer chose to see her friends first but she never knew that it will be

the last time she’ll be ever to talk with her. In the end, Khy went back to her hometown
and transferred. The writer regretted what she had done, not spending time with

someone so special. The writer sent Khy a last message on how thankful she is that she

met her, and how she’s grateful for Nikolai for meeting her. Now, they’re long, sweet,

and genuine conversations are long gone.

 The symbol that the writer used is the lamp, the lamp symbolizes Khy. The lamp is a

temporary thing that lights up your room whenever it is too dark to see. Same goes with

Khy, she came to the writer’s life giving her light in her gloomy and dark world, she

gave a sudden spark to the writer, but same with the lamp, their moments together faded,

broken, and temporary.

 I like how the writer concisely write every detail of their conversations together. As a

reader, I felt the genuine feelings they’ve felt with each other and it was nice because I

could also feel some “kilig”.

 For me, a memoir is good as long as it comes from the heart. There’s no need to improve

on her memoir because I appreciate the hardship and doubt she must have felt to write

this hurtful moment and it is my honor to read such piece that is written so bravely. In

technical things, I consider it so good since the dates and the place of the scenes were

really presented. It was easier for me to understand and learn from it.

 One of the insight of this memoir is the part where the writer told Khy that she’ll be

going to distance herself because of the conflict with Nikolai and the writer’s best

friends. I can relate to this because there are times in your life where you distance

yourself with people not because you don’t love them but because you do. It is better

to let people go, than keeping them where you could hurt much other people. Letting

people go is a selfless decision, I would rather sacrifice my own happiness than to see

so many people affected by my own selfishness.
