Assessment:

In this article, the author explains the specialty of family medicine and all it entails. The

article focuses primarily on family medicine physician. Family medicine physicians are trained

in a vast variety of subspecialities and therefore can treat many different abnormalities. The

article also explains the origin of the specialty of family medicine and how as time has passed

the speciality has continued to be needed in the community. Family medicine treats all genders,

ages, and socioeconomic status. This being said without the specialty of family medicine lower

income neighborhoods would not have access to primary care.

The information presented in this article is important and relevant to me in my

Independent and Study Mentorship class because of the discussion of family medicine. My topic

of study, Physician Assistant, has me shadowing a mentor in the family medicine specialty.

Therefore, the information I gained from this article gave me more of an insight into the

speciality I will be shadowing. The article gave me a new and fresh perspective on the specialty

of family medicine.

The article is quite short but also detailed and full of useful, insightful information. The

breakdown of information was easy to comprehend and enjoyable to read. None of my previous

knowledge was altered or changed. However, I did gain much more knowledge about the family

medicine specialty which I can then combine with my knowledge of the profession of physician

assistant. This combination of knowledge will be so beneficial to me in my second semester of

the Independent and Study Mentorship class. In the second semester of ISM I will begin my

mentor visits with a family practice physician assistant; therefore I will be utilizing all my

information I have learned through secondary research.

I plan to add this information to my previous knowledge of the physician assistant

profession. I will utilize the combination of the two to be better prepared for my mentor visits

and have more of an understanding of different aspects of medicine. The information

demonstrated in this article is all factual and reliable because it comes from an accredited source.

The article did not spark any new questions for me just made me appreciate the family medicine

specialty way more. Before reading the article I did not realize how beneficial this speciality is to

the entire community.

In conclusion, the information in this article is beneficial to me and will help to better

prepare me for second semester and my future in the profession of physician assistant. This new

information I have gained made me more excited and eager to start accomplishing my goals. I

am excited to be able to apply this information in an actual clinic setting and be able to

experience first hand a family practice from the medical side. The article contained a plentiful

amount of useful and factual information that will help me to accomplish my goals and put me

on the right path in my future career. Judging the information everything looks great and I am

happy to have gained this new knowledge.
