SHEET 8DK-32 Main Bolts Tightening Torque Table
3
◎ The main bolts and nuts should be tightened in accordance with "Main Bolt Tightening Torque Tablet" as described on
the right.
1) All bolts and nuts should be tightened according to the procedures in the respective items of Section 7
"Maintenance".
2) The bolts and nuts should always be tightened diagonally and alternately.
3) The cylinder head tightening nuts, crank pin bolts and connecting rod joining bolts should be checked for tightening
force after the engine is operated for a certain period.
As for the period, see Section 6 “Periodic Inspection.”
4) The symbol marks shown in the Remarks column have the following meanings
※: Priority should be given to the tightening hydraulic pressure and torque shown on the nameplate on the engine.
☆: Apply lubricant (MOLYKOTE 1000 Spray) to the threaded portions (including studs).
★: Apply lubricant (MOLYKOTE 1000 Spray) to the contact surfaces (bearing surfaces).
□: Apply lubricant (MOLYKOTE U Paste) to the contact surfaces and threaded portions.
◆: Apply lubricating oil to the threaded portions and contact surfaces. Do not use MOLYKOTE.
The △-marked parts are assembly parts. Lubricant has been applied to them by the manufacturer before
shipment.
5) Apply an anti-seizing agent or lubricant (MOLYKOTE 1000 Spray) to the threads and bearing surfaces in heated
areas around the exhaust pipe.
If any agent other than the specified product is used, the frictional force of the threaded portions changes.
This may cause the bolts to be tightened excessively, broken or loosened, thereby resulting in damage to the
piping.
6) The torque wrench should be checked periodically.
7) All mounting bolts should be re-tightened when the engine is stopping, and after re-tightening, the crank differential
should always be checked.

5 TYPE Operating Procedure and Daily Maintenance
SHEET 8DK-32C Cautions When Operating Engine
1
1. Cautions When Operating Engine
(1) When Starting
1) Check the quantities of oil, water and air in the tanks, open and close relevant valves, and make preparations for
starting. Make sure that the engine starting conditions are met.
2) Make sure that the turning device is in the released state.
3) Confirm that there are no persons around the engine. If someone is near the engine, give him a sign to ensure his
safety before starting the engine.
(2) During Operation
1) After starting the engine, check the following points to ensure that the engine is in the normal running state. If
any abnormality is found, stop the engine, investigate the cause, and take measures.
• Check that the engine data on the lubricating oil pressure, exhaust temperature, etc. are normal.
• Check for abnormal noise and abnormal heat generation.
• Check for leakage from the piping system. Leakage from the oil pipe system can cause a fire.
Never restart the engine until the cause of any abnormality or trouble is revealed, measures are taken and the
engine is recovered.
2) If your body or any article touches a rotating part, e.g. the flywheel and coupling, your body may catch in the part,
or the article may break into pieces, and serious accidents may occur. Never touch any rotating part.
Before starting the engine, fit the protective covers to the rotating parts.
3) While the engine is running, particularly the following parts are hot. If your bare hand or bare skin touches them,
it can be burnt. When maintaining and inspecting them, wear protective means, such as safety gloves.
After the completion of the work, restore the lagging, heat covers, combustible oil splash preventive means and
protection covers that have been removed for maintenance and servicing. Then, start the engine.
• Exhaust pipe
• Turbocharger
• Air cooler inlet pipe
• Cylinder head
• Pressure indicator and safety valve
• Fuel injection pump and high-pressure pipe
• Fuel oil filter and fuel oil pipe (when heavy fuel oil is used)
(3) When Stopping
1) Before stopping the engine, remove loads from the engine except in case of emergency.
2) When the emergency stop mechanism functions, never restart the engine until the cause of emergency stop is
revealed, measures are taken and the engine is completely recovered.
3) Do not open the inspection window cover on the engine frame for at least 10 minutes after the engine is stopped
until the engine cools down sufficiently. The combustible mist gas in the engine frame may catch fire and
explode.
4) The engine is kept at high temperatures after it is stopped as well as while it is running, and it can cause burns.
When inspecting and maintaining the engine, wear protective means.

7 TYPE Maintenance
SHEET 8DK-32C Cautions for Disassembly, Maintenance and Reassembly, and Checks
3
(3) Cautions for Disassembly, Maintenance and Reassembly
1) Prepare replacement parts, tools and measuring instruments in advance. Use specified tools. As replacement
parts, use our genuine or specified parts.
2) Washers, packing, O-rings, split pins and wire rings must be replaced with new ones every time the engine is
disassembled. Prepare such parts in advance according to the scope of disassembly.
3) After disassembling, cover openings with tape or clean cloth to prevent entry of foreign substances.
When restoring the engine, remove these covers without fail.
4) Keep the disassembled parts in order to prevent damage or loss of the parts and improve the efficiency of
reassembly.
5) Parts stamped with mounting positions, such as cylinder numbers and bearing numbers, or notch marks, should be
mounted in their original positions. When replacing any of these parts, stamp the part with the same mark as that
on the removed part.
6) For high-temperature parts, such as the exhaust pipe, bolts and nuts made of heat-resistant materials are used.
When reassembling, take care not to confuse them with general bolts and nuts.
7) Tighten major bolts and nuts uniformly to the specified torque (or specified hydraulic pressure).
If it is necessary to apply an agent, such as a lubricant, for tightening, never use any agent other than the specified
one.
8) When maintaining, measure the parts to be measured, and keep the data on the measurements in order as reference
data for the future.
9) The protective covers and heat insulating covers that have been removed should be returned to their original
positions.
10) After using spare parts, fill up the shortage as soon as possible.
(4) Checks After Disassembly, Maintenance and Reassembly
1) Check that all bolts and nuts are not loose and are provided with specified stop rings. Check carefully the parts
in the engine that cannot be checked visually while the engine is running.
2) Turn the engine, and prime it with fluids. Check that moving parts do not interfere with one another, no leak
occurs and no parts are clogged.
3) After the completion of the work, make sure that the turning device is in the released state.
4) Record the performed operations and replaced parts in the engine log.
