During this training, we will go through a short P&ID exercise. Use this document to come up with your own
training or use this next time you schedule a product demo. If using the demo master files, update the
configuration files to point to your installation folder, either the C or D drive.
Using a live database will enable you to use the product more in-depth. A live database will also enable you
to go into the project database and run reports easily. If time permits, the live database function also allows
you to practice Loops, Internet Publisher, and Datasheets.
Capabilities
CADWorx P&ID
CADWorx P&ID allows designers to choose how much information or external documentation is attached to
components within their process and instrumentation diagrams.
CADWorx P&ID offers a range of drawing modes from quick and simple diagrams to real-time project data
across multiple drawings. CADWorx P&ID can link items within existing drawings to bi-directional ODBC
databases in native Access, Excel, SQL, Oracle, or dBase formats. This means that drawings made up of
line and blocks or legacy P&IDs created by third party software can be made useful for the life of the plant.
CADWorx P&ID enables end-users to use their existing symbol libraries, automatically linking them to their
databases, thus ensuring continuity and increased functionality.

Configuring BricsCAD
When demonstrating CADWorx P&ID Professional on BricsCAD, there are some settings you may wish to
change prior to the demo. These settings will help you perform the demo with more ease.
The default template folder is BricsCAD and the default template is in imperial. While in the Settings dialog
(type either OPTIONS or SETTINGS into the command line), search for Templates (you may need to use the
arrows to the right of the search box to cycle through some results) and you will find this setting,
Set the both the template path and sheet set path to the support folder for CADWorx Plant D:\CADWorx
2017 R1\P&ID\Support. Then, once the folder path is set, you can then set a default template (i.e.
Metric.dwt). This will open a metric template when you open a new page using the QNEW button
But will still give you all the template options if you use File>New

The Quad can be useful when you are getting used to using BricsCAD with CADWorx, but it can get in the
way. Here are some settings you may want to try to make the demo run as smooth as AutoCAD.
Again, in Settings type Quad into the search and cycle through until you see the main Quad settings.
Increase the time delay for when the Quad appears, so that it doesn’t appear when you as soon as you
hover over a component, in the example below, it has been increased to 1000ms.
Also, double click next to Quad display, it will expand. A good suggestion is to have the display settings set
to the following,
This will prevent the Quad from displaying when you don’t need it, but also it makes hiding objects much
easier. That helps a lot for this demonstration. When you want to hide an object or selection of objects, select
them first them right click to bring up the Quad,

Legacy Conversion
What should be done with old P&ID drawings?
CADWorx P&ID provides a very simple method for converting any current P&ID drawing into a system that
works within its own environment. There are two issues that must be addressed. The first matter concerns
the existing drawing and how to place information within it that allows conformity to the new CADWorx/P&ID
system. The second is how to reuse existing blocks without causing problems for the new system.
Opening an existing drawing does not automatically associate the attributes with the columns in the tables.
This requires running an additional command named XDATAADD. This command allows you to choose
which table is used with the block and associated attributes. The command has 8 different options, which are
the same as the tables within the CADWorx/P&ID database.
Add Xdata adds identification to the selected object and makes it recognizable to the software by placing an
entry (or row) within the appropriate table. At this point you can modify the database or the drawing. If an
object selected has labeled attributes, these values are placed into the database table.
6. Double-click a valve to display the AutoCAD attributes. Note the available attributes, such as the
spec, the size, the part number, the rating, and the tag among others, and click OK.

Loop Generation
CADWorx/LOOPS consist of three modules.
The Loop Generation module allows you to automatically generate instrument loop diagrams in just
seconds from data stored within the P&ID and their associated databases.
The Loop Table Generator module eliminates the need for you to have expertise in creating databases; the
module automatically creates loop tables from assigned text and block attributes in the drawing template
files. These loop tables are then stored as part of the project database.
The Loop Database Editor module has powerful data manipulation routines that allow you to quickly add
any information you want to appear on the loop diagram. Finally, the new Loop Drawing Generator provides
simple dialog boxes from which you can pick the loop diagrams you want to generate, creating in minutes
what previously would have taken days to produce.
