Introduction
• Power electronic converters are used to:
1. Convert power from renewable source to match load demand
2. To improve dynamic stability of generating systems
3. To integrate energy storage system to solve fluctuation problem

Existing topologies and their disadvantages
• Renewable energy source is connected to the load througha DC-DC
Converter
• Energy storage system is connected either to input or output.
• Disadvantages
1) Low efficiency.
2) Low power density.
3) Increase in size due to multi-stage architecture.
4) Relatively high cost.

How is this done?
• By inserting a general cell which is composed of:
1. A Diode
2. A switch
3. An energy storage system/Battery
• Into a traditional buck-boost (or any)converter

Directions Of Future Research
1. High gain non-isolated three port converters

2. Three port inverters (which includes DCinput port, another DCport for
energy storage and A C output port).

Conclusion
• Three port DC-DC converter are superior to traditional DC-DC
converter in terms of power management, reliability and life span.
