In the lecture we are being told that the private collectors of fossils aren't actually creating negative

consequences due to their activity, as we are told in the reading.

Because of the collectors selling the fossils, many low level schools and libraries have now acces to some
great fossils at a reasonable price. This thing is opposing the ideea in the reading which says that the
public suffers because fossils aren't donated to museums, and because of that there is a decline in
public interest. If it weren't for the collectors, as the lecture says, the children wouldn't have fossils in
their own schools, so they wouldn't benefit that much from them.

The second point made in the lecture is that because of the private collectors, the scientist aren't
missing any important fossils, and that's because when a fossil is found, it has to pass through the hands
of a scientist first, so it can be examinated, as no one would spend money on a fossil that wasn't verified
by a scientist. This thing is opposing the point made in the reading which says that the scientists won't
be able to study some of the most important fossils that are found.

Finally, the lecture states that if it weren't for the collectors, a lot of fossils wouldn't have been found at
all, thing that would be worse for the scientists, because some destroyed scientific evidence is worse
than no evidence and fossils at all.
