Agenda.3. Introduction Of USAID and Funded Project on provision of Electricity
through Solar Panel

A comprehensive presentation on Small Grants and Ambassador’s Fund Program (SGAFP)

U.S Ambassador’s Fund Program was presented by Mr. Abdul Salam Executive Director (hereafter ED)
during meeting. He briefly shared AF project agreement between NRSP-SGAFP and GEO-Jaffarabad.

Agenda.4. Project abstracts and Objectives.

This was the main agenda of project which was briefly described by the Executive Director GEO, in the term
of abstracts of project E.D elaborated that however, purchasing wood or kerosene oil or filling LPG
cylinders has financial implications for the poor households. Given the rising trends in demand for
electricity, there is a fierce need to switch to alternative sources of electricity production and home
based solar energy systems are an ideal alternative to harmful alternatives.
In this Regards the following were set to transform the lives towards the ways of Development
 Provision and installation of 87 home based solar energy systems in 04 villages in District
Jaffarabad and 02 villages in District Sohbat Pur;
 Conduct community awareness sessions on the significance of consuming green energy; and
 Building technical capacity of 12 youth in operating, and maintaining home based solar systems

Agenda.5. Introduction of Focused Community and their needs regarding Solar

system

Electricity to Jaffarabad district is provided from Guddu with the grid station located in the district at
Usta Mohammad (66 KV), Dera Murad Jamali (66 KV), and Rojhan Jamali (66 KV). There are two (2)
transformers located in Jaffarabad: of 6 MVA and 5 MVA. Moreover, while it is stated that 76% of the
inhabited area of district Jaffarabad has electricity supply, however, due to ambiguities on the definition
of a “village”, statistics shows an electrification rate varying from 14% to 76%. In addition, considering
the number of connections related to the average household size of 7.1, not even 10% of the population
has access to electricity.

To harness solar energy resources, and for the targeted villages being un-electrified, GEO proposes to
install home based solar energy systems in all the households of the 06 villages that is approx. 87 houses.

The solar panel proposed under this project will be of 150 watts hence it will generate 998.5 watts
(hours) of power every day (based on an average 9 hours of sunlight each day). Each beneficiary
household will manage the available load according to its requirement. With a fully charged battery, 01
pedestal fan of 30 watts can be run for 08 hours, 04 Energy Saver Bulbs of 24 watts each can be used for
06 hours, 05 mobile phones with charging requirement of 2.5 watts each can be charged in 05 hours and
02 hand torches of 15 watts each can be used for 04 hours, at a stretch. Wiring and ducting with the
solar system will be carried out by adhering to the electrical safety standards.

QESCO-Jaffarabad and Sohbat Pur has confirmed through letter that the proposed villages of UCs are
off-grid and QESCO has no plans to extend electricity to these villages in the near future.

Agenda.6 Sharing Project Design and Implementing strategy.

ED shared the Home Based Solar Energy System diagram with the following capacity with Board of
