Week Nine
Topic: PERIODIC TABLE AND PERIODICITY OF PROPERTIES (Chapter 3)
Ionization energy: the energy required to remove an electron from a neutral atom. Electron affinity: the
energy change when a neutral atom attracts an electron to become a negative ion. Electronegativity:
the ability of an atom in a molecule to draw bonding electrons to itself.
Trigger Questions:
o What is priodicity?
Points to discuss:
o Definition on Ionization Energy + electron affinity
o Nature along periods and down the group
o Affect of Ionization Energy + electron affinity on elements
EMS High School Teacher’s Lesson Plan
Trigger Questions:
o What are cations and anions?
Points to discuss:
o Understanding of electro negativity and electro positivity will be given
o Trends of electro negativity and electro positivity along groups and periods will be
discussed.
Homework
o Self assessment exercise will be given as homework.
