A. Definition of a Report Text
A report text is a type of document written by someone or group of people
to announce the result of an investigation or announce something to the
proper authorities. The information given in a report text is very general
information.

B. Generic Structure of Report Text

1) General Classification: General statements that describe the
subject of the report, description, and classification.
2) Description: tells what the phenomenon under discussion ; in terms
of parts, qualities, habits or behaviors.

C.Social Function of a Report Text

The purpose of a report text is to present information about something
generally. It generally describes the way things are with reference to arrange of
natural, manmade and social phenomenon in our environment, such as: mammals,
the planets, rocks, plants, countries of region, cultures, transportations, and so on.

D. Language features of Report text

1) Nouns and noun phrases are used rather than personal pronouns.
The use of personal pronouns is limited.
2) Most reports are written in the present tense.
3) Some reports use technical or scientific terms.
4) Linking verbs are used, eg. is, are, has, have, belong to, to give
coherence.
5) Uses some action verbs (climb, eat).
6) Descriptive language is used that is factual rather than imaginative
eg. color, shape, size, body parts, habits, behaviors, functions, uses.

E. Example of report text

Dolphin
Dolphins are marine mammals with a very high inteligence. There are more

than 40 species of them spread around the world. Most of them live in the

ocean, but some of them such as the Chinese river dolphin live in the river.

They consume fish and squid as their main diet but some of them also eat

other marine mammals.

The maximum size of each species is different. Maui’s dolphin (the smallest

dolphin) can grow to the size of 1,7 m with the maximum weight of 50 kg,

while the largest dolphin, the killer whale, can reach the maximum size of

9,5 m with the maximum body weight of 10 tons. They have streamlined

bodies and two flippers located on left and right bottom of their body. Those

flippers are called “pectoral fins”. On the top of their body, there is a large

fin caled as “dorsal fin”. A dolphin breathe through a hole located on top of

their head. It is called as “blowhole”. They have a long snout called as

“rostrum”. The tail of a dolphin consist of several parts, they are: peduncle

(the tail stock), flukes (the flat part of their tail which split into two), and

the median notch (the middle part of the two flukes).

A. Definition of aBiography Text
Biography text is a detailed description or account
of a person’s life and written by someone else, it is
non fiction text.
B.Generic Structure of Biography Text
1) Orientation (introduction), It is the opening
paragraph, gives the readers the background
information of the person.
2) Events, In events, should be chronological order.
3) Re-orientation (closing), It consist of conclusion or a
comment or the writer. Tell about the echievement or
the contribution of the person.
C. Social Function of a Biography Text
1) To know a person’s story about his/her life outside of
any accomplishments this person may be known for.
2) To give many information easily and educate the
readers.
D. Language features of Biography Text
1) Use of simple past tense
2) Temporal sequence and temporal conjunction. As a
link between one sentence with another sentence in
chronological order.
 3) Focus on Specific participants.

Biografi Shawn Mendes

Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born August 8, 1998; age 21 years old) is a
Canadian singer and songwriter Mendes gained followers in 2013, after uploading
a song cover on the Vine video sharing application. The following year, he caught
the attention of artist manager Andrew Gertler and A&R from Island named Ziggy
Chareton, who made him contract with this record company. He has released
three studio albums, held three world tours, and received several nominations
