I Branch of engineering that concerns the design, development,

improvement, implementation and evaluation of integrated
systems of people, knowledge, equipment, energy, material and
process.
I It draws upon the knowledge and skill in mathematical,
physical and social sciences together with principles and
methods of engineering analysis and synthesis.
I It eliminates wastage of Time, Money, Materials, Energy and
Other resources
I Industrial engineering analyses effective utilization of men,
money, material, machines, methods

Evolution of Modern Concepts in Industrial Engineering

I IE has its origin in the Industrial Revolution around 1750

I New inventions, particularly in textile industry, steam engine,
metal cutting, and production of machine tools led to factories
with large number of workers.

and practical demonstration had been expanded to more
complicated processes
