TIP/SAP: TTW read Martin’s Big Words about the life of Dr. Martin Luther KingJr. Students
will discuss vocabulary, the early years, adult years, and the family life go Dr. King. Students
and teacher will have a Q&A to answer any questions. Teacher will play a snippet of the “I Have

ISS: Students will write a reflection paragraph using correct capitalization, punctuation and cor-
rect sentence structure. Students will chose one of the three writing reflections below:
What new fact did you learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how does that fact change
your opinion about him?
Dr. King said, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” What does this
quote mean to you and what could you do to serve?
Pretend you are the first person to tell a younger child about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
What would you share with them?

TIP: TTW discuss with students the dream that Dr. King conveyed in his speech. TTW display
lyrics to the song on the Elmo. Students will analyze the song and determine the main idea and
supporting details.
SAP: Students will discuss within their group a personal dream they have.
ISS: Students will illustrate their personal dream and write a paragraph explaining the dream.
