Clearing Pending IM Posting Entries for Physical Inventory

(WM Posting Is Done, IM Posting (Step 4) Has Failed)

There are 4 steps involved in the background of the Inventory Posting transaction in the Hand-Held
Device:

- LI01N: Creation of Inventory Document

- LI11N: Entering the count into the newly created Inventory Document
- LI20: Posting the WM stock differences into the Bin Location (and LX03)
- LI21: Posting the IM stock differences to the Storage Location (and MMBE) – creation of the
material document for IM stock inventory entry which you can see in MB51

To post the physical inventory in SAP system directly, you will have to do all these 4 steps one by one.
With the hand-held device, all these steps are executed one by one in the background. Sometimes, one
or the other steps fail to get executed. The hand-held interfaces give you appropriate error message for
each of these stems (Document creation failed, Step 2 failed, etc.) except for the last step (LI21). Hand-
held interface will give a success message whether the LI21 step is successfully done or not. This failure
could be due to many reasons (posting period is not open in the system, material is not extended to
storage location RM07, material is not fully maintained, material is blocked for posting, etc.). User will
not know if the IM stock is updated or not at the time of posting the physical inventory using the hand-
held interface. This help document explains how to clear all such pending IM movements in one go.

Transaction: LI21
This will list all the materials/bins for which the IM inventory posting has failed:

By default, all the lines are selected.

Click on ‘Write Off’ button to try and clear any of these pending entries if possible.

In some cases, all such entries could get automatically cleared:

For others, appropriate error messages would be listed for the failures.

In most cases, it would be due to the material not being extended to AE20-RM07 storage location.
Maintaining the MM storage location for RM07 for these materials would ensure successful posting of
the pending entries for these materials. There could be other causes for the error message, such as
blocked materials, posting period not open, etc. Take appropriate measures to clear these errors.

Run LI21 again with the same parameters, and press ‘Write Off’ to clear the IM postings.
