Project Title:
Traffic Flow Optimization System

Abstract:
SUMO is an open source traffic control and optimization software in which
real world traffic problems can be handled. In this project we shall design a software for
resolving the traffic congestion issues in Lahore and in other cities all over the Pakistan. As
traffic congestion is a major problem in Pakistan. The task is to decide in which direction traffic
have to move more by making run time decision by observing flow traffic load.

Budgets:

 No specific development budget required.

 Only server deployment expenses.
 Low cost solution.

Introduction:
The purpose of the is to utilize the open source software SUMO for optimization
study. SUMO is a simulator that can simulate the traffic flow using programs written by user.
SUMO will be linked through simulated sensors where it gets input from environment then it
will decide how to work by learning.

Project Scope
Our project will involve using SUMO to programme the AI based
algorithms that will decide the flow of traffic control in which direction at run time. These
algorithms will use the image processing techniques for decision.Sensors are already
working on signals.They take input from surroundings then this input will be utilized in
programmed algorithms.

Requirements
This project must have the following initial requirements:

Functional:

 It should manage the time of each signal.

 It should make a connection of different traffic spots in the city.

  It will decide in which direction traffic have to move to smoothen it.
 It will perform automatic and instant decision making what to do at a time.

Non-Functional:

 The system should be able to provide safety, security.

 It should be available 24/7.
 It will work to get rid of traffic congestion.
 It should be able to work in varying number of vehicles by counting them through image processing
techniques.
