MT 1–D READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY JANUARY 22, 2020

1.Among the versions of Cavite mutiny, which one is most credible? Why?

The Spanish version of Cavite mutiny stated that Filipinos attempt to overthrow the
Spanish government because they wanted to install the three priests called GOMBURZA
to be the new kings. While, the Filipino version of Cavite mutiny stated that Gov. Izquierdo
must be blamed due to his cold-blooded policies such as the abolition of privileges of the
workers and army members, the prohibition of the founding of school of arts and trades
for the Filipinos, which the general believed as a cover-up for the organization of a political
club. So, since the version of each Cavite mutiny gives the perspective of each side, we
cannot really tell which one is the most credible because it is their own perspective to the
things that happening during that time. Maybe both of them are somehow correct based
on what they see because it is based on what they have observed.

2. What does the issue on the first cry depict about the Filipinos?

The issue on the first cry which is the “Cry of Balintawak” was the beginning of
the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. It depicts the rebellion of many
Filipinos by starting it through tearing up their cedulas as a sign of defiance to their
allegiance to Spain.

3. Among the versions of the first cry, which account do you believe and why?

I believe to the first statement of Dr. Pio Valenzuela when he said that it is in
Balintawak because he is one of the surviving witness of the Cry of Pugad Lawin and
even though his statement is not consistent, it may be because of aging. Also, it's been a
long time when the said event happened.

4. In relation to number 3, which is the most controversial version of the first cry?
The most controversial version of the First Cry is also the statement of Dr. Pio
Valenzuela since his statements are not consistent. Due to this reason, it threw doubt to
the cry itself like what is the truth, where it really happened, or did it really happen or not?
