Loss Circulation / stuck pipe Incident at Margand X-1

Back ground;

While drilling 8-1/2” hole in rotary mode at 4149 m (Chiltan formation, top @ 4093 m), observed severe
losses with no returns for few moments, lowered GPM and got return, stopped pump & observed well
static losses @ 15 BPH.

What happpened;

Decided to pump & spot LCM pill and POOH to top of LCM pill, Pumped & spot 50 bbl of 60 PPB LCM pill
(BARACARB 25/50/150 15ppb each, Calcium Carbonate Fine 15ppb). POOH from 4149 m to 4089 m, observed tight
hole , pump out with low GPM (100-120 ) from 4089 m to 4052 m. At 4052 m, obsrvd SPP increased & string got
stuck. Worked on string with max. 12 tons over pull & 20 tons compression. Performed downward jarring. String
got released. (String remained stuck for 15 min)

Possible reason;

As losses occurred while drilling and pumps had to be stopped, there were cuttings in the annulus. After spot LCM
pill, during Pump out the GPM were kept very low to avoid displacing the LCM pill, so the cuttings could not be
lifted properly which most probably caused the bit/motor stalling & string stuck. String was released with down
ward jarring and later while pump-out with higher GPM no problem occurred.

To avoid the issue; high-Vis/high density (02 ppg higher than normal) pill should be pumped prior to trip out. If
pump out is required then it should be at optimum GPM 300-400 to lift the cuttings.

Lubricant to be maintained @ 2%, Soltex 2-3 ppb , Clay SEAL @ 3% Fluid losss: > 4 ml

As discussed please find below the forward plan for LCM Non Damaging LCM pills, based on the Nozzles
sizes we can increase pill in option 2 to 120 ppb with BARACARB’s.
