Tips & Techniques

Section A

1. Write FIVE INDIVIDUAL sentences. These 5 sentences are NOT necessarily

connected. A mixture of tenses eg; sentence 1 in present tense, sentence 2 in
past tense IS ACCEPTABLE.

2. You can choose the words in ANY ORDER to construct your sentences.

3. Marks will be penalized for INCORRECT use of grammar, punctuation marks

or spelling.

4. If possible, TRY not to change the tense of the given words in the boxes.

5. Use a variety of sentences – simple, compound and complex (explain about

the subject in detail).

6. DO NOT use sequence connectors eg; finally, next, then, lastly etc. Marks will
be penalized if you use.

7. Marks are given HOLISTICALLY. Examiners use bands and NOT 2 marks for
each sentence.

** A complex sentence includes, at minimum, one dependent clause and one

independent clause. The dependent clause is connected by either a relative
pronoun or a subordinate conjunction.
e.g. -While I was walking on the beach, you played the kites.
-When he handed in his worksheet, he forgot to write his name on it.

Section B

Question 2 (A)

1. You write the answers EXACTLY as they are written in the information table.
If capital letter, use capital letter, if small letter, use small letter, if has comma,
full stop, dash etc, write them EXACTLY in the space provided.

2. Marks will be penalized for mistakes in spelling or punctuation marks. Capital

M must have sharp lines, and not Macdonald (m). So do capital W. Ringgit
Malaysia (RM) is capital letter. Small letter of rm, is WRONG and no marks
will be given. The letter O must be exactly rounded and not oval 0. 8 p.m. is
correct. If you write 8 p.m (without full stop after m) is wrong.

3. Handwriting is VERY IMPORTANT in this section. Please write NEATLY

and CLEARLY. Cursive writing is NOT RECOMMENDED for this section.

Question 2 (B)
1. DO NOT use sequence connectors in this section – firstly, secondly, next,
lastly, after that, furthermore, moreover, in addition etc are NOT
ACCEPTABLE and marks will be deducted is you use.

2. State AT LEAST three (3) reasons of your choice.

Section C

1. You can change the order of the words but do not mix up the tenses. Do not
change the tense.

2. Band 4 (13-15 marks) will be given ONLY if there are own words, phrases,
own ideas, creative expressions (ungkapan kreatif), idioms (simpulan bahasa),
proverbs (peribahasa) etc used in the text. If no CREATIVITY or CREATIVE
EXPRESSIONS used, the highest marks is ONLY 12.

3. Write AT LEAST three (3) paragraphs. If no paragraphs, marks will be

penalized. Each paragraph must contain AT LEAST three (3) sentences. Add
in suitable introduction and closure.

4. Use a variety of sentences – simple, compound and complex (if possible).

5. Remember, it is the QUALITY that matters the most, not the LENGTH of
your answer.

6. Well organized ideas are considered as strengths whereas repetition of ideas is

considered as weakness.
