The king of one country had a precious vineyard. (Once, there was a king who
had a vineyard which he held very dear).

일꾼 – servant, 여러 – many, 가꾸다 – to take care of

Many servants took care of that vineyard. (There were many servants who
were taking care of that vineyard?)

그런데 – but, 가운데 – among, 한 – one, 보다 – than, 부지런 하다 – to be


hardworking, 솜씨 – to be capable, skilled, talented, 몇 배나 – more than
excellent
But, among the servants, one man was diligent and several times a better
worker than the others.

날 – day, 말하다 – to speak

One day, the king told the hardworking servant:

언제 – when, 보다 - to see, 좋다 – to be good, to like, 솜씨 – skill

“I like to see such a hardworking and talented servant.”

산책을 하다 – to go for a walk, 특별히 – specially, 함께 – together

“ Today especially, come take a walk together with me.”

거닐다 – walk, 얼마 후 – after a while, 저물다 – to fall, to be gone, 포조 밭을


거닐었어요 – walked through the vineyard

The hardworking servant and the king walked together though the vineyard
and after a while the day was gone.

서다 – stand, 줄을 섰어요 – stand (stood) in line, 받다 – to receive, 삯 –


wage, 삯을 받기 위해 – to receive the wages, 하루 – one day
The servants stood in line to receive the wages for the day.(the day's worth
payment)

똑같 – the same

They received the same without getting less.

되다 – become, 차려다 – dress up

The hardworking servant was dressed up?

역수 – sum, amount, 역시 – also

He too received the same amount.

소리 쳤다 – to shout, 내며 – pour, 그럼 – then, 다른 일꾼들이 – different


servants, some servants, 벌컥 – clatter, 벌컥 화를 내며 – get angry

Then some servants shouted in anger.

이건 – this, 불공평 – unfairness

“This is unfair.”

세 시간 – three hours, 밖에 – only, 일을 하다- to work

"This person only worked for three hours.”

산책 하지 않습니다 – do not take a walk, 그리고 – also, 나머지 – the rest,


시간 – time, 음금님 – king, 함께 – together

Also, for the rest of the time, didn't he just take a walk together with the king?

그런데 – but, 우리 – we, 똑같 – same, 만도 – nonsense

To receive as much pay as we becomes nonsense. (It does not make any sense
for him to receive the same payment as we do)

동료 – colleague, 화 – anger, 몸 – body, 몰라 하다 (모르다) – to not know


When his colleagues got angry, the hardworking servant did not know what to
do.

열다 – open, break, inaugurate, 이윽고 – yet, after a while, 입 – mouth, 입을


열다 – to open the mouth (start to talk)

After a while, the king started to talk.

듣다 – to listen (actively), 들리다 – to hear (passively), 고ㅓㄴ리가 – right,

“This man has the right to receive the same amount of money as you.”

홰냐하면 – because, 하루 종일 – all day, 일한 – work, 분랭 – amount, 만 –


just, 해냈기 – 해내다 – accomplish

“Because you accomplished all day as much as he did in only three hours”.

얼마나 – how much, 오래 – how, 얼마나 오래 – how long, 일을 하다 – 일을


했느냐가 아니라 (not worked, didn't work), 많은 – much, 중요한 – important

“It's not important how much time you spent working but how much work you
actually did”.

내던 – throwing, 화를 대뎐 – angered, 부끄럽다 – ashamed, embarrassed,


고개 – head, 숙여다 – to bow

The angry servants bowed their head ashamed.
