“I was in there,” Gurley

In general, that proved

The Rams’ defense, on

job against New England’s

Tom Brady in particular.
The Rams would have

Rams defensive back Aqib Talib (21) follows through on a hit to Tom Brady after the Patriots’ quarterback had thrown a pass during the second quarter.

Talib finally sees Pats in Super Bowl

By Rich Hammond
rhammond@scng.com
@Rich_Hammond on Twitter

ATLANTA » Aqib Talib is a rarity.

He played for New England, but
not in a Super Bowl.
That seems to be a given for
anyone who lands on the Patri-
ots’ roster, a job benefit, like a
dental plan. Yet Talib spent parts
of two seasons with the Patriots
(2012 and 2013) and lost in the
AFC Championship Game both
times. On Sunday, Talib — now a
Rams cornerback — tried to deny
the Patriots, without success.
Talib was in search of his sec-
ond ring, after a championship
run with the Denver Broncos in
2015.
“You make a play like that in a
game like this,” Talib said before
the game, “and that’s the ultimate
dream come true.”
Talib, who turns 33 this month
and is a former All-Pro and Pro
Bowl selection, nearly has done
it all in the NFL, but has yet to
record an interception in a play-
off game.
Talib has 11 previous playoff
games, so perhaps it’s a stretch
to call it an interception drought,
but consider that Talib has re-
corded 35 interceptions in 143 ca-
reer regular-season games. That’s
an average of one every 4.1 games.
“That would be huge. I need ELSA — GETTY IMAGES
