Reviewing The Potential Benefits of Educational Use of Social Network
Reviewing The Potential Benefits of Educational Use of Social Network
A comprehensive
review of a large set of these online tools has shown that there are many educational
benefits of social media. These web-based applications have been found to be able to
improve communication between students and between teachers and students. In a
matter of seconds, both teachers and students can communicate with one another.
Social media can also be used to encourage communication with students. Students
who frequently complain about being intimidated or bored in classroom may feel
comfortable expressing their creativity and voicing their opinion on a website of a social
network. Another finding from this study is that social media apps promote teamwork as
they enable students to work together to achieve a common objective (Kumar, &
Vasimalairaja, 2018).
The use of social media provides instant feedback to the students. Social networking
allows teachers to provide direct instructional feedback to the students in and outside
the classroom. Research has indicated that immediate input and/or outcome
information has a very important role to play in the learning process (Abraham & Saini,
2018). Use social media helps teachers understand the learning needs of students
quickly. Continuous delivery of student perspectives offers sufficient content for teacher
evaluation of student learning. Students with problems with certain concepts can be
detected in earlier stages, and they can be supported with effective intervention
(Abraham & Saini, 2018).
Social media has the potential to make students more involved. Student engagement is
characterized as participation of students in high-quality learning activities and
conditions (Kuh, 2003). The familiar atmosphere and underlying informality make the
learning process more interesting and enjoyable. They are automatically more
receptive to material presented on social networking sites. The use of Social Media
tools provides teachers with an opportunity to reach students who are hesitant to be an
active member of the teaching learning process (Abraham & Saini, 2018).
social media plays an important role in the academic achievement of students through
collective learning and interactivity with peers and teachers (Alkutich, 2018).
In another study, Manca and Ranieri conducted an extensive national survey of the
actual employment of social media in Italy. They studied social media support in
teaching and learning, and their challenges. They find that for various reasons, the
social media has a limited impact. Cultural, pedagogical and constraints such as (2016).
