2. What is the story all about?

The story is all about the scholar students enrolled in Philippine Science High School
Manila. The story started when students from different regions participating the
National Quiz Bee. Dakila Lim was being eliminated during the National quiz bee.
This movie happened during the regime of President Marcus dictatorship. The
participants of the quiz bee composed of Roman, Wena, Lim, Minggoy, Liway,
Andy, and others were passed in tge Philippine Science High School and granted
scholarship such as free tuition, books with monthly allowance. Of uniform and
monthly stipend. Roman Mineses was an alternate student because someone ignored
the scholarship. Roman was the last of applicants because he was late during the
examination of mathematics. Ms. Casas is there teacher in Science and elaborate the
conclusion and injected to the freshmen students that they should prove what they
believed. Romans mother is a vendor and his father was an OFW in Jeddah. Roman
and Roy was the partner during the reporter regarding the solar system and was being
the excellent reporter. Roman felt in love with Ms. Wena and awarded as the new
“Crush ng Bayan” of the school. Wena’s favorite leisure activities are poems and
writing stories and wanted to go to the arts school. Because of their effort and
perseverance in their studies, Rom placed as number 4 in the list of outstanding
student while Lim placed as number 2. The next day, the freshmen had their
socialization/acquaintance party, Rom together with hid group of friends are having
a game like truth order. His friend asked him who is his crush and declined the offer
and choose consequence that he will make a dance with his crush which is Wena.
After the said event, Roman and Wena awarded as the Crush ng Bayan. Ms. Casas
observed the relationship between the two teens and asked Roman and Wena to go
to her office to have a monitoring session. She was disappointed to Roman and
observed Wena that she lost nutrition. She is guiding the two student and let them
decide what they would choose. The next day was the birthday of Rom and being
surprised by his classmates and had a kissed to Wena. Suddenly Ms. Casas arrived
and saw their smuck kiss. Mss. Casas greeted Rom’s birthday. Rom then observed
that Wena was avoiding him so he confronted Wena about the problem. It was
obvious that the two lovers greatly affected with their broken relationship and
decided to get far from themselves and focus on their studies. After that Ms Casas
gave the test and send goodluck to both Wena and Rom. After the test ranking is
posed on the bulletin board and Ms Casas saw Wena’s rank to 38 and that’s not bad
according to them. Rom rank as number 2 in the list. After that they rejected one
another and avoid talking to each other.
Mateo Mercado was late during his subject in Geometric Math and ask by his teacher
to show what is his problem and said that he don’t have problem. His problem is
sink. However he show his problem which is the shape of the plot. Mat has a problem
in his roommate. He don’t like his roommate because it seems that he is inferior to
them and let them do what his roommate told to him. Mat want to save his money to
buy new shoes. In his barrio, Mat was the one who studied in Manila and in a prestige
school which is Pisay. When his mother knew that he passed the scholarship exam,
they killed a cow to celebrate. His teacher in Math reviewed his project and it seems
that his project was not good. He said to his teacher that his dorm it is chaotic and
he can’t concentrate. At this time Ninoy was assassinated. During their math subject,
they discussed the issue of Ninoy’s assassination. Mat was not included in the
students ranking and called by the director’s office, He saw his teacher before going
to the Director’s office and talked about bell curve, Mat was being inspired by what
his teacher said. When he went to the office of the director Ms. Casas said that the
three boys will no longer continue their studies in the school because of the low
grades in their subjects however in other school, chemistry, physics and
Mathematics is no longer be taken again so they can continue their studies and
proceed to 3rd year high school.
During Junior High, Ms. Claver is good in writing and was a journalist during her
Junior High like his father who went to Netherlands for his CPA. Liway is good in
social science and explained about Martial Law. She is serious in her studies and
Gallardo offered him to help her in his report in symbiosis with a condition that he
will be his partner in Soc Sci. SPHS having a Council Meeting and talked about the
studies regarding the upper class and lower class. Come up the result that the upper
class is doing well compared to the lower class. The problem arise in the meeting
that there is no enough budget in the Pisay and Claver do the petition about it. Mother
of Claver went to her dorm and told her daughter there was chaos in Union and
leaders were caught. The father of Claver was blamed and issued an ASO and
applied a political asylum in Netherlands and therefore they will go to his father to
escape. During the research report of Mr. Gallardo and Mr. Gallardo, Ms. Claver
was not around and decided to aboard from the school.

During the Senior High, Ms. Casas together with the students had the career
guidance regarding on what courses they were going to take. Ms. Casas reminded
the student that they must choose courses which is aligned with sciences or else they
will reimburse all payments including stipend. At this year, Cory Aquino affirmed
her candidacy as president in the Philippines. Dakila Lim’s research has been
accepted in Texas international research. Rally happened during this time against
Marcos regime. However, Artists was discourage of Ms. Casas because during
homecoming students were not complete. But they decided to have the stage
presentation outside of the school. During the presentation the masks made by
Minggoy were used. He was confined in the hospital because of his illness. It is
inevitable that some student loved theatre arts.
Graduation, the most awaiting for happened and students were awarded such as
Cadet Awardee Gallardo Andres, Golden Quail Awardee Wena O Ledesma, Artist
of the year, Eurepides V. Gano, Mathematics Reasearch Awardee, Dakila S. Lim,
Calss Salutatorian, Roman Mineses.
3. What group of people would like this movie? The students most specifically
from secondary level. They would like the movie because the situation is very
relevant to them. The second one are the out of school youth. It will teach
them the importance or the value of education. The third one are the teachers
or instructors. Mentors will be motivated in teaching students and may revised
their strategies in teaching. As teacher, teaching doesn’t end inside the four
corners of the classroom, rather be the guidance counselor to the students.
They will also do monitoring and guiding the student how to aligned courses
chosen like what the teachers do in the film. Teachers have various roles and
they must motivate students especially those who failed the subject. The
fourth one are the administrators in the institutions, they have also great role
in the lives of the students like supervising and monitoring the performance
of the students. The most important people who would like this movie will be
the parents. Parents have a big role to the life of their children. When having
time in viewing this film they will be proud of the student’s success because
they excelled in each subject with awards. The students in the film have high
intellectual aspect and we could say that they are doing good job in their
studies. Parents then have to understand the life of the students because all the
efforts and success of their children are their success too, therefore parents
must support always for the improvement and success of their children.
4. Did you like this movie? Yes because it inspires the students from this recent
generation to be brilliant and do well in their studies and not taking for granted
the subjects. The teachers do great job in supervising and monitoring the
grades of the students. They are good in guiding and counseling if they
observed something wrong of the students. As teacher and guidance
counselor, I have seen in the movie that we should guide and do monitoring
on the progress of each student most of the time.
5. What ratings would you gave?
I will rate 100 out of 100 % ratings of this movie because it inspires a lot and
very applicable to us teachers, students, administrator as well as to the parents.
6. What spoilers might ruin the movie for viewers if you told them about it?
About the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos presidency, maybe because the
viewers will think that the film is boring because of the history of the
Philippines.
7. What lesson I get from this movie is to guide and monitor each progress and
performance of the student. And freedom of students right.
8. What title would you give from this movie?
 “The Cream of the Crop” I choose this title to encourage the students
to do their best in their studies.
