1. Introduction
Warder (Shaman + Soldier) is a often suggested as a good beginner build since it combines
decent damage with tankyness. In addition, is pretty easy to level up since it has both single
target damage and AoE (area of effect) thanks to our main skill Primal strike.
Furthermore, you can make a decent starter farmer with a Warder for Ultimate difficulty
gameplay without having top-tier items like the full Mythical Ultos Set.
The build in this guide is a two-handed melee fighter style that relies on high armor and
life-steal to sustain in battle. There will also be a rough presentation of a more single-target
focused version of the build, where Savagery is the main-skill.

The goal of this guide is to show the novice player how to make such mid-tier end-game
farmer Warder. The vast majority of the items we will use for the level 100 end-game build
are Faction items/blueprints, common blueprints, and farmable Monster Infrequent (MI)
items that you don’t need fancy “double” rare affixes on.

The target audience for this guide is first of all players that have started a Warder with some
basic/generic advices from someone (like on the Forum, on Youtube or Reddit etc), but still
feel kinda lost on how to progress, what gear to look for and how a decent level 100 build
should look like and perform without hundreds hours worth of farming.

Furthermore, this guide will be suitable for players that have some experience with the game
but still need some advice on how to level up and how to make a decent end-game character
from scratch without having any items to transfer over.

What this guide will NOT do is to hold your hand in every aspect of the journey, how to do
quests, the importance of resistances and armor, resistance reduction, and other generic
mechanics and strategies. In other words, I will assume that you already know this or are
willing to find this information elsewhere so that we can focus on how to make the actual
build in mind here.

Advantages with this build you will deal Lightning and Electrocute damage for the most
part. This damage type is good since there are not that many important monsters and bosses
that have high resistances to it. There are many usable faction items, farmable and craftable
items that supports the build. The classes of choice combines excellent health, and overall
tankyness. When it comes to gearing, we have one less item-slot to care about since we are
going with a big two-hander here.

Problems with this build and common for basically all two-handed melee builds, is that it is
hard to stack high physical resistances (which is perhaps the most important resistance type) -
we do not go with shield on this build which in general are excellent sources of physical
resistance. Thus, one of the first upgrades you might want to do is to get gear with physical
resists - even 3-4% here and there can add up to respectable numbers. Two-handed weapons
also suffers from low base attack-speed. For a build that relies on stealing life with attacks,
this can be quite harmful, especially when debuffed with slow and fumble.
2. Basic end-game builds

As mentioned in the introduction, the goal of this guide is to show you how to make a decent
end-game char so that you can start farming for higher-tier items more efficient.
Due to the RNG nature of this game, it is hard to say what you will / will not be able to get in
a general play-through.

In my experience, it is always helpful to see a, more or less, duplicatable build.

Such build will serve as both an inspiration and as a benchmark.
Basically, you should not have to complain about “I had bad luck with RNG”.

Level 100 char - basic geared Savagery Warder

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/DV9kl1WN

My personal favorite of these two basic builds is the first one, but is slightly more wonky to
play with.

Note: do not take the gear etc in the Grim Tool links above as some kind of recipe to follow.
It is just example of what you can do if you follow this guide. You can see it as some kind of
"minimal version build". Below, you can read more about how to get gear, alternative gear,
leveling tips and much more.

The builds were made in Forgotten Gods Patch 1.1.2.5

The helm transmog is crucial for a cool Shaman look - Wildcaller’s Cowl
Weapon transmog - Stormreaver
3. High-tier geared end-game builds

These builds will give you an idea on what kind of items you might wanna keep an extra eye
on if RNG happens to bless you. They will also serve as long-time end-game goal of this
kinda build and other types of Warders.

My own “creation”. Physical damage Savagery with Deadly momentum stacks.
One can switch around and spend more points to Cadance and use Savagery its charges.
There are similar builds like this, but I could not find one that was “up to date”.

4. Skills

Primal Strike (Shaman) our main attack-skill. Get main-skill and modifiers as high as
possible. NOTE: can only be used with two-handed weapons.

The first modifier “Torrent” deals weapon damage and can therefore also heal you even
more. If you are shy on skill-points, look for its breakpoints where it gets extra target (rank 6
- 4 targets, 12 - 5 targets, 14 - 6 targets, 16 - 7 targets).

The transmuter “Thunderous strike” makes us spam the skill, so grab this.
If you go with the Savagery version of this build, remove transmuter and use Primal strike as
a “nuke” skill.

Primal strike uses plenty of weapon damage, this means that we need weapon with high
damage and plenty of sources of flat damage.

NOTE: attack skills that activates from “default weapon attacks” can not be triggered with
Primal strike - such as “Feral Hunger”, “Upheval”, “Markovian advantage”, “Zohan
technique”.
Savagery (Shaman) we will use this skill to get the passive boosts it grants as long as you
have at least one “charge” up. This is only needed against bosses basically. These stats are
global and will apply to all your attacks as long as you have charges up:
- OA, DA and Slow res (from “Tenacity of the Boar”)
- Attack speed from “Storm touched”
- Physical resists from “Might of the bear”
All the other things (like the “total damage modified”) on “Might of the bear” is not applied
globally.

Spend one point in Savagery main-skill, max first modifier, one point in last modifier and
max the transmuter.

If you think you can’t manage this playstyle, simply skip Savagery, or skip Primal Strike and
use Savagery as main attack. Make sure to invest some points into Feral Hunger and Upheval
if you do go with Savagery as main skill.

Attack skills that activates from “default weapon attacks” can be triggered with Savagery -
such as Feral Hunger, Upheval, Markovian advantage, Zohan technique. BUT since we only
attack with Savagery like once 10/seconds, these skills are not worth the investment right
now. But, if you go with the Savagery-focused version of this build, feel free to invest a few
points into at least the Shaman skills Feral Hunger and Upheval.

Brute force (Shaman) will add more lightning damage to our weapon attacks and provide flat
health. Max this skill.

Wind Devil (Shaman) one point in main-skill and second modifier “Maelstrom”.
The first modifier “Raging tempest” is what we want, resistance reductions. At first, 12/12 is
good to aim for. Later when you have more skill points, get this as high as possible.

Mogdrogen’s pact (Shaman) passive toggle skill that provides some defensive boosts. The
Soldier defensive skills are better, so we will just spend one point in main-skill and in each
modifier for so long here. The second modifier “Oak skin” is a nice way to get some Aether
and Pierce resistances, keep that in mind when you face aetherials and are more or less
undergeared.

Wendigo Totem (Shaman) when you and monster(s) are within its radius, you gain some
decent healing. Try to get 9/12, should be good enough. One point into modifier for some
extra life-steal.

Stormcaller’s Pact (Shaman) exclusive toggle skill. Provides decent damage and +% crit
damage. Also, it provides global damage conversion: physical to lightning (and internal
trauma to electrocute). Try to have at least 10/12 in this one, and max it when you have more
+skills in general.
Field Command (Soldier) One of the best, toggle skills in the game which is not an
exclusive skill. Aim to get this as high as possible. If low on skill points, keep it at even
numbers.

Its modifier “Squad tactics” you should keep at 12/12 since we mostly want it for attack
speed which scales poor after this point.

War Cry (Soldier) base skill at 12/12 since it scales poor thereafter. One point into modifier
“Break Morale” for skill disruption (can be good now and then).

Blitz (Soldier) optional skill. Decent movement skill that require a target. Worth one point if
you feel you need it and can play with more buttons.

Soldier passive skills:

- “Menhir’s Will” : a few points worth, get it to 4 or 6
- “Military Conditioning” : good skill, get it to 10 or 11. Rank 12 is not worth it.
- “Decorated Soldier” and “Scars of Battle” : one-point wonders. +skills will take care
of them
- “Fighting Spirit” : worth a few points, get it 3, 4 or 5 but not more.

5. Devotions

5.1 General outline

We are doing a 2-handed melee build with lightning and electrocute damage.
In order to survive we need good defenses and life steal.
Since Soldier do not give us resistance reductions (rr) for the damage type we are dealing, it
is crucial to maximize rr from devotions.
Some way to get energy regen is also needed.

Kraken = mandatory for 2-handed builds.

Widow = mandatory for lightning builds for rr.

Rhowan’s crown = good for flat rr, we need exactly one source of this since flat rr do no
stack.

Ghoul = good for life steal, especially when you are low on health.

Bard’s harp = good for energy regen, OA/DA and general good nodes for elemental damages.
Ultos, shepherd of storms = One of two options for tier-3 lightning damage devotions. The
other choice is Spear of heavens. I do like the nodes of Ultos better (flat OA) and it seems to
fit the general devotion scheme better. Nevertheless, Spear of heavens is a killer devotion.

5.2 Devotion map order

This is how you get the devotions for the basic gear builds.
Next section will deal with how to bind the devotions. When leveling up, make sure to bind
devotions to something that is as similar as possible as the final build.

Purple Xroad
Toad, Quill, Rhowan’s Crown
Remove Purple Xroad
Chariot of dead
Blue Xroad
Sailor’s guide
Remove Blue Xroad
Kraken, Widow
Ghoul (up to proc)
Yellow Xroad
Lion, Bard’s harp
Remove Lion
Viper
Remove Sailors guide
Ultos, shepherd of storms (up to proc, get last node with chaos res if you need it)
First node in Empty Throne
two first nodes in Jackal (for attack speed)

If you do not take the node with chaos res in Ultos, you can spend the point here instead:
First node in Dryad (poison res and energy)
Last node in Jackal for physical res
First node in Typhos for armor
First node in Hyrian/Phoenix for +40% elemental damage

5.3 Devotion bindings

Inspiration, Wayward soul, Ghoulish hunger = all to permanent passive toggle skills.
Hand of Ultos = Wind Devil.
Arcane bomb = Primal Strike for the Primal Strike build & Savagery for the Savagery build.
Elemental Storm = Wendigo Totem for the Primal Strike build & Primal strike for the
Savagery build.

5.4 Alternative devotion map

Here you can see a devotion map for an alternative map where we get Spear of Heavens
instead of Ultos https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4ZDzxBQ2 (just look at devotions)
6. Items for basic end-game char
Although some of you will find better gear than what the basic char in section 2 have in a
general playthrough, all items must fit together and provide the basic stats (Armor, Defensive
and Offensive ability (DA & OA), resistances). In particular, green items often provides more
stats and resistances than blue and purple items (but often lacks physical resist and +skills).
My general advice is to play with as much green items as possible, until you can craft higher
tier components which will give you plenty of stats and resistances.

6.1 Weapon
For this build, the weapon is one of the most important pieces of gear. That is why we will
spend quite some time learning about what you are looking for and how to get it.

Korvan Storm Halberd (and lower tiers, use at least a level 84 version)
A monster infrequent that is pretty rare, but with some dedication you will find a decent one
in shorter time compared to other weapons. apart from a faction weapon that will be covered
further down. Earliest place that it drops is Temple of Osyr and the North part of Cairan
Docks (see below for farming tips).

It has lightning as base damage and have nice mods for Primal Strike.

Stats/Affixes you want:

Things that gives flat lightning/electrocute damage , +% lightning/electrocute damage,
extra conversion physical to lightning, attack speed.

A somewhat comprehensive list

(yellow = magic tier, high chance; green = rare tier, low chance)

Prefixes Suffixes
Charged Of Spellweaving
Magestorm (always have some mix of two damage types)
Skyfallen Of Thunder
Stormcharged Of Alacrity
Thunderstruck Of Fallen Skies
Bloodthirsty Of the Flamecaller
Frenzied Of Torrents
Relentless Of Ferocity
Of Fervor
Of Fury
Of Onslaught
Of Ruthlessness
Of Scorched Runes
Of the Elements
Of Voracity
Farming tips for Storm Halberd: do entire Temple of osyr and the north part of Cairan
docks.
beware of arcane heroes, do not rush into battle but try to isolate mobs when crowded
the high priest: fight him at the altar. Push bloodthirster and charge up some savagery, then
primal strike him. Do some savagery attacks now and then. Durgs den, south of Cairan docks
(beetle nest) is worth doing for a purple boss - do not drop this weapon but its nice to kill that
boss anyway. If Ultimate is too hard for you, farm them in Elite. If monster level is 90 or
higher, they can drop the level 94 version. You still have chance to get good loot in Elite in
general, if your level is 90 or higher.

Faction end-game weapon

Malmouth Greatsword
at Malmouth faction, honored faction status.
Reset faction vendor inventory until it sells something that have more than 50% damage
conversion and more than +350% lightning damage.

DPS with Malmouth greatsword is around 75-80k, with Storm Halberd 95-105k.
At least 30% higher DPS with Storm Halberd (depends on roll of course), but it is definitely
something you wanna farm. You also get decent faction reputation with the FG factions by
farming for it. I’d say farm Storm Halberds until you have five level 84 and/or 94 versions.
Use the best one, keep potentially good ones and sell the bad ones.

Other end-game weapons (random drops)

Mythical Champion of the Light

Mythical Blessed Cleaver of Mogdrogen

(part of a set. you can try to transmute other part of set to get this)

Fist of Ultos

Mythical Alvarick's Rebuke

Mythical Stormreaver (require blueprint for crafting)

Mythical Ultos' Stormseeker

(part of a set. you can try to transmute other part of set to get this)
Leveling weapon:
Basically any 2-hander with attack speed and flat/% lightning damage is fine.
This is a good weapon that you can use Hevill's Greatsword click on “map” for its location
(crack that Urn). There is one version per difficulty:
Elite: H
 evill's Greatsword Ultimate: H evill's Greatsword
The normal one is at least good for level 1-20ish, elite one level 50-60 and ultimate one level
70-80.

Location of Hevill's Greatsword

6.2 Helm

Fettan Mask (Boba Fett from Star Wars you know). Again not a meme-item, very good for
its ”cost” and perfect for beginner/budget builds. Here is how you get it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rltY_sXpeo8
You get one version per difficulty, so go to FG as soon as you can on each difficulty just to
pick up this helm! (level req for Normal/Veteran is 50, Elite 75).

These MI's are also pretty good Fleshwarped Casque

(exists in different tiers and can get one prefix, and one suffix). Good for having almost 100%
uptime on War Cry (reduction of physical resistance). Drops from the Fleshwarped monsters
around Homestead. Worth farming a few of these and see if you can make them fit onto your
char.

Faction helms of interest:

Elite Coven Flameweaver Casque (and lower tier)
Elite Bysmiel Stormshroud Headguard (and lower tier)
Great for the Savagery focused build, due to +3 to that skill.
It is very hard to beat a “free” helm that gives +1 all skills though…
6.3 Chest
We first of all want heavy armor, no caster stuff.

Faction chests of interest:

Elite Bysmiel Stormshroud Cuirass good base armor rating and flat electrocute dmg
Elite Coven Warder Chestguard flat OA and also +3 storm surge

6.4 Gloves
Yellow or Green ones with good defensive stats. It is very important to get extra attack
speed on them (i.e. “of alacrity” and other affixes)

You can try to craft some of these if/when you get the blueprints:
Emberguard Gauntlets
Plagueguard Grips
You can buy these blueprints from the secret vendor in Blood grove. He do not sell them
100% of the time so you have to visit him a few times to get it. Cheap to make so make many
and keep some with many good defensive stats.

6.5 Boots

Yellow or Green ones with good defensive stats.

Craftable: Stoneplate Greaves

You can buy the blueprint from the secret vendor in Blood grove. He do not sell it 100% of
the time so you have to visit him a few times to get them. Cheap to make so make many and
keep some with many good defensive stats.

Good faction boots that can be good to begin with Elite Harvest Footpads

6.6 Belt

Craftable: Stoneplate Waistguard you can buy this blueprint from the secret vendor in
Blood grove. He do not sell it 100% of the time so you have to visit him a few times to get it.
Cheap to make so make many and keep some with many good defensive stats.

White Lotus Faction blueprint. Extremely good belt but require you to be revered with one
of the FG factions. Remember that learned faction blueprints are not soulbound.

If you get a good rolled belt of this MI Ugdenbog Girdle

(and lower tiers) it might also be a decent choice for a basic end-game build. Can drop from
the “creeper” monsters in the Ugdenbog areas.
6.7 Legs

Get whatever good ones you can come by (many defensive stats).

A good choice is Solael-Sect Legguards

you can farm them from Guardian of Solael in the "Hidden Path" quest. They always roll
with Aether & Bleed resists and life steal. Drop chance is 40% and it is pretty fast to run that
boss so give it a try if you lack pants.
Another good leg-armor is Bysmiel-Sect Legguards
from the third boss in the Hidden Path quest. Always rolls with acid res and life.

Craftable pants that might be worth to consider:

Rimeguard Chausses
Stormguard Leggings
You can buy the blueprints from the secret vendor in Blood grove. He do not sell them 100%
of the time so you have to visit him a few times to get them. Cheap to make so make many
and keep some with many good defensive stats.

6.8 Shoulders

Faction shoulders
Elite Coven Warder Spaulders (and lower tier) my choice
Elite Bysmiel Stormshroud Mantle (and lower tier)
Elite Dreeg Dread Spaulders (and lower tier)

6.9 Rings

Coven Storm Seal (good damage, DA and acid res) best in slot for this budget build!

6.10 Amulet

Empowered Essence of Beronath Craftable. You can buy this blueprint from the secret
vendor in Blood grove. He do not sell it 100% of the time so you have to visit him a few
times to get it. You can also farm this by killing mobs, and it’s easiest to do that on Elite
(Rogue-like boss chests).

Faction amulets of interest:

Solael Stormfire Pendant the conversion of physical damage into fire damage is not
problem until you have in total over 100% damage conversion.
Wendigo Sky Pendant provides nice stun resistance.
6.11 Medal

Faction medals
Bysmiel Mark of Storms good allround
Mark of the Farseer this can be worth crafting later for more +skills to Storm surge etc.

If you find a good rolled Kymon's Badge or shop one from the secret vendor in
Blood grove, you also have a nice medal.“Thunderstruck Kymon’s Badge of readiness” could
be dope!

6.12 Relic

Ancestor blueprint that is sold by Hyram in steelclap district. Switch to this when you do not
longer need the mana skill from the Talisman relic (see leveling tips below). The best
completion bonus is +1 to Storm Surge, +1 Torrent or +1 Raging tempest.
+1 to Oak Skin or +1 Tenacity of the boar is not bad either.

The “goal” relic to get is Eye of the Storm and that blueprint can be tricky to get since its a
level 60 blueprint. Thus you have best chance of dropping this in Elite (like Nemesis troves
and Roguelike boss chests).

6.13 Components

Weapon
Haunted Steel for more life steal, the skill it grants can be a good lifesaver.
Amber some extra damage, do not bother with the skill.
I think Haunted steel is the best to use later on, but requires some crafting.

Amulet, Medal, Rings (note, some can only be used in Amulet/Medal):

Mark of Illusions great for energy regen and DA.
Ectoplasm great for energy
Aether Soul great for aether res
Black Tallow great for chaos res
Arcane Spark great for OA and energy
Frozen Heart great for Freeze reduction
Dread Skull good for speed
Soul Shard good for Vitality res & Energy absorption
Wardstone elemental and bleed res, speed
Armor (note, some are slot-specific):
Sanctified Bone great for resistances and extra damage to undead/chthonics.
Very good for SoT & BoC runs.
Restless Remains Energy, casting speed and life steal.
Consecrated Wrappings Attack speed
Scaled Hide great for armor absorption
Leathery Hide great for stun resistance
Runestone elemental & aether resistance
Silk Swatch pierce & bleed res
Antivenom Salve poison/acid res
Unholy Inscription OA and some resistances
Molten Skin fire res
Dense Fur cold res
Rigid Shell lightning res
Chains of Oleron OA
Mark of Mogdrogen health and speed
Mark of the Traveler speed & slow res

6.14 Augments
some suggestions
Weapon
Potent Malmouth's Heart
Potent Malmouth's Will

Rings/Amulet
Skyshard Powder
Survivor's Ingenuity
Osyr's Temper
Osyr's Wisdom

Medal
Emblem of the Riftstalker
Teleport skill, pretty high cooldown though. It requires clear line of sight

Emblem of the Charging Bull

Rush skill, need no target. Short range & cooldown.

6.15 Crafting
Try to craft as many items as possible with Angrim for Armor and/or Physique.
7. Leveling tips
Leveling this build is straightforward since we do not need to use temporary skills - it is a
pretty linear process.

For the GT-links below, just look at skills

First, make sure to pick up Hevill's Greatsword (remember to upgrade weapon asap and that
you have one of these swords per difficulty)

Level 10: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/RZRoKOON

Level 20 https://www.grimtools.com/calc/M2gl89gV

Around here you will be able to pick up the Talisman relic from the ”Lost elder quest”.
When you hand in the quest, select ”No, I did not find a talisman” and you will get a pretty
good relic from free that have a skill that will regen your energy.
I suggest you use this until you have Bard’s harp devotion proc at decent rank.
Remember, you can get a new more powerful Talisman relic in each difficulty.

Level 40 https://www.grimtools.com/calc/p25rzJ0V

Level 60 https://www.grimtools.com/calc/aZqlQ4vV

Now its basically just leveling up soldier mastery bar, get Field command and modifier, the
soldier passives and War Cry.

When you are done with that, you can add Savagery and modifier + transmuter for stacks.
It will take some time to get used to playing, but with some practice you’ll figure it out.

See Gameplay-tips section below for more tips.

General tips for leveling:

- Make sure you have pretty high attack speed and life steal.
- Make sure your resistances are high and if you take too much damage here and there,
see if you can overcap some resistance
- Make sure to upgrade gear, especially chest and leg armor for having has high armor
rating as possible.
- If you are close in getting honored/revered with a faction, try to push it to the next
step. You get assigned more quests when you reach honored and can start to buy
ring/amulet augments.
At revered, you can buy armor augments (check their level req first).
8. Stats to aim for

At least +1500% lightning & electrocute damage, 150% attack speed, 15% life steal.

Max resistances, and elemental, vitality, aether and acid overcapped.

Min 16k life.

2600 OA and DA without Savagery buffs.

2000 armor.

In order to improve the build more, you need more physical res and armor for tankyness and
OA to make use of all our nice +%crit dmg.

Attribute points
As much as possible into Physique. Some spirit might be needed to wear Rings and Amulet.
Cunning is good for some more OA. But do not go overboard with Spirit and Cunning. 10-20
spirit and 20-30 cunning should be enough for starters. You can only respec attributes with a
special potion (quest rewards, nemesis troves, crucible and SR reward chests).

9. Damage conversions

We need “physical damage converted to lightning”. With the usage of Storm Halberd - that
has plain lightning base-damage, we still need this conversion for the flat physical damage on
Primal strike.

Note, you might find items that have other kinds of conversions from physical damage. This
is in general not an issue, as long as your total conversion from physical damage is less than
100%. If you get above 100% total conversion from a damage type, the actual ratios of each
individual source will get scaled down. I.e. if you have in total 80% phys to light and 30%
phys to vit (in total 110% conversion from physical damage), your new phys to light is
80/110 = 73% and your new phys to vit is 30/110.

In the builds for this guide, we have Haunted steel for life steal. It also give phys to vit
conversion. And that is no big deal, since we will not get above 100% total conversion from
physical anyway.

Stay away from “lightning damage converted to” and “elemental damage converted to”.
10. Gameplay tips

Against tougher mobs, you place totem and cast wind devil. Then you place yourself inside
the totem and start hitting with primal strike. Now and then, push your rmb to attack with
savagery to gain buff charges. You can still hold down lmb, your attacks with rmb will
overwrite attacks from lmb. So what I do is that I simply push rmb now and then to keep the
savagery charges up. I do this while holding down lmb. It will take some practice. Remember
that savagery deals less damage, so you will also heal less when charging up savagery buffs.

For the build where we use Savagery as main skill, you do the opposite. You have charges up
all the time, but now and then push rmb to cast primal strike.

Use the mobility skill when in big danger and the haunted steel skill for more heal (like when
ghoulish hunger and menhir will is on cooldown).

12. Future patches / updates

I will not have time to update this build guide with every new patch. Patch changes seldom
“kill” beginner builds but can sometimes “hurt” decked end-game builds. At the official Grim
Dawn forum you can read the patch notes and see what changes have been done to this guide.
