1. Describe the relationship between Globalization and Mcdonaldization.

This is such vast topic I would have to focus on just a small part of globalization theory. I am
particularly interested in theorizing the globalization of culture. Accordingly, I would be well advised
to consider the Mcdonaldization, as one of a number of globalization processes.

2. Explain the 5 characteristics of globalization and how does it affect developing countries.

The characteristics of globalization:

1. Liberalization: The freedom of the industrialist/ businessman to establish industry, trade or

commerce either in his country or abroad, free exchange of capital, goods, services and technologies
between countries.

2. Free trade: Its between countries, absence of excessive government control trade.

3. Globalization of Economic Activities: Control of economic activities by domestic market and

international market, coordination of national economy and world economy.

4. Connectivity: Localities being connected with the world by breaking national boundaries, forging
of links between one society and another, through international transmission of knowledge, literature,
technology, culture and information.

5. Borderless Globe: Breaking of national barriers and creation of inter- connectedness, the ideal of
borderless globe articulated by Kenichi Ohmae.

Globalization creates greater opportunities for firms in less industrialized countries to tap into
more and larger markets around the world. Thus, businesses located in developing countries have
more access to capital flows, technology, human capital, cheaper imports, and larger export markets.
Globalization allows businesses in less industrialized countries to become part of international
production networks and supply chains that are the main conduits of trade. Globalization compels
businesses to adapt to different strategies based on new ideological trends that try to balance the
rights and interests of both the individual and the community as a whole. This change enables
businesses to compete worldwide and also signifies a dramatic change for business leaders, labor
and management by legitimately accepting the participation of workers and government in
developing and implementing company policies and strategies. Risk reduction via diversification can
be accomplished through company involvement with international financial institutions and
partnering with both local and multinational businesses.
3. Create a matrix or diagram showing the four major dimensions of Mcdonaldization and briefly
explain.

4. Why did the author say that there is no scope for any creativity nor any value for human skills
in Mcdonaldization society? Do you8u agree or disagree?
