REALISTIC QUADRATICS

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Please choose your scenario below.

____ shooting a basketball

____ kicking a soccer ball
____ hitting a badminton shuttlecock
____ passing a ball
____ throwing an object upward
2. Have someone in your group do the scenario mentioned above. While doing the scenario, someone must
take pictures from a constant position. Have many screenshots as much as possible as the object flies in the
air. Take note also of the horizontal distance from the original position to the landing area of the object.
3. Print some of the pictures and analyze the parabolic path of the object. Make a Cartesian plane in the picture
by letting the height of the shooter (whatever) be the y – axis and the ground be the x – axis.
4. Out of the xy plane drawn, determine the following:
a. at least 5 coordinates of the parabolic path including the maximum point and the landing point. This
can be done by using the concept of symmetric points.
b. axis of symmetry
c. horizontal distance
d. maximum height reached by the object
e. model or equation of the parabolic path
5. Present a final sketch (picture) showing all important parts in item 4. Present via PPT.
6. Thursday, Week 8.
