2 Types of research, discuss each and provide three examples in

each type.

Answer:

Basic research- is an investigation on basic principles and reasons for

occurrence of a particular event or process or phenomena. It is not concerned

with solving any practical problems of immediate interest. It provides a

systematic and deep insight into a problem and facilities extraction of scientific

logical explanation and conclusion on it.

Example:

 An investigation looking at what whether stress level influence how often

students engage in academic cheating

 A study looking at how caffeine consumption impacts their brain

 A study assessing whether men or women are more likely to suffer from

depression

Applied Research- one solves certain problems employing well known and

accepted theories and principles studies individual or specific cases without the

objective to generalize.

Example:

 The question is what will apple do about this problem?

 Reducing crime through street closures


 Should McDonalds and Italian pasta dinners to its menu

Correlational Research- a type of non-experimental research method in which a

researcher measures two variables, understands and assess the statistical

relationship between them with no influence from any extraneous variable.

Example:

 Describe a linear relationship between variables

 Do not imply a cause and effect relationship

 Do imply that variables share something in common
