SYNOPSIS

INTRODUCTION
A war memorial is building, monument, status or other edifice to celebrate a war or victory,
or to commemorate those who died or were injured in a war.
It’s a place where we can understand and realize how much the defence means to a country
like ours, which holds a deep routed history of war won and lost, fighters flown and crashed,
it becomes more or less inevitable. A museum needs to be looked at more like an emblematic
construction.
The necessity of establishing a war museum has long been felt, but the difficulty of
programming lack of knowledge for space requirements, lack of funds, and red tape have
been main reasons for the delay in the project.

The War memorial will serve vital purposes in the field of the national education, the
national discipline and national integration.
 It will be a glowing tribute to our martyrs of 1857 and will encourage more and more
people to understand and appreciate the participation of our martyrs. The common
civilian will understand that the soldier not only fights but also defends the total
culture.
 It will be the only institution in our country projecting the true image of our nation, to
Indians and to outsiders.
 This memorial be the best sources of motivation and inspiration, to mobilize the
people to the motto ‘Service before self’.
 The arms which are scattered over the length and breadth of the country will be
brought under one roof, and it will serve as a history museum, projecting the socio-
economic and the political condition of the corresponding periods.
 It will accomplish the dual purpose of acting as a place of recreation and promoting
tourism.
The Ministry of Defence, Government of India has decided to build a National Memorial in
order to honour the memory of all soldiers and their sacrifice.
