Question Tags

A question Tag comes at the end of the sentence to make confirmation. When the
first part of the sentence is positive, turn it into negative.
Example:
1- The song sounds nice, doesn’t it?
2- The orchids look pretty, don’t they?
When the first part of the sentence is negative, turn it into positive.
 They aren’t pretty, are they?
 You can’t climb a volcano, can you?
Use positive questions with (no – never – hardly – rarely – seldom)
 Volcanoes never happen in Egypt, do they?
 She never gets up late, does she?
Use the subject pronoun (they) in the question tag with (someone – somebody –
none – nobody – everyone – everybody)
 Someone ate the cake, didn’t they?
 Everybody will come, won’t they?
Use subject pronoun (it) in the question tag with (something – nothing –
everything)
 Something happened, didn’t it?
 Nothing matters now, does it?
Notice the following changes:
1- I’m surprised to be here, aren’t I?
2- Let’s go for a walk, shall we?
3- Let us do our homework, will we?
4- I’d rather have some tea, wouldn’t I?
5- I’d better sit in the garden, hadn’t I?
6- That / this is your pencil, isn’t it?
7- These / those are my books, aren’t they?
8- There is a meeting today, isn’t there?
9- Everything is all right, isn’t it?
10- Everyone / Everybody answered the test, didn’t they?
11- Don’t make any trouble, will you?
