B. Academic calendar

Semester system 2 semesters


1st semester (Fall): beginning of October – end of January
2nd semester (Spring): mid-February – end of June
Academic calendar 2019-2020 1st SEMESTER:
Semester dates, including the exam October 1st : Opening of the academic year
period October 1st - December 22nd: 12 weeks – classes
December 23rd - January 5th: 2 weeks – winter holiday
Note: The academic calendar for January 6th - January 19th: 2 weeks – classes
2019/2020 will be officially approved January 20th - February 2nd: 2 weeks – exam session
before the end of the current academic February 3rd- February 16th: 2 weeks – holiday (1 week for re-
year. examination)
2nd SEMESTER:
February 17th - May 31st - 14 weeks – classes
(1 week Easter holiday: 19-26 April)
June 1st- June 14th: 2 weeks – exam session

Grading system The Romanian grading scale runs from 1 to 10 and the marks have the
following meanings: 1-4 fail, 5-6 sufficient, 7 satisfactory, 8 good, 9 very
good, 10 excellent.

UAIC uses ECTS credits for transfer and accumulation. The ECTS credit
is a notional, averaged unit of 28 hours of student workload for passing
a course (including contact hours and any form of individual study).
Credits are awarded only if the student fulfils all the requirements
necessary for passing.

Standard workload Corresponding to 30 ECTS/semester. Each course has 5 ECTS at


undergraduate level or between 6-10 at MA level.
