1. The elections to the Grampanchayat of Taluka Barshi, District Solapur were

scheduled to be held on 15th January, 2021. In the meantime, the Urban Development

Department of the State of Maharashtra has issued a proclamation dated 24th

December, 2020 announcing its intention to issue a Notification in exercise of the

powers conferred by sub-section (1), (1B) and (2) of Section 3 of the Maharashtra

Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, 1965 ("the said

Act") with a view to specify the local area of the Village Panchayat Vairag in Solapur

District being an area in transition from rural area to an urban area and to constitute a

Nagar Panchayat by the name of "the Vairag Nagar Panchayat" for the said transitional

area.

2. Objections were invited and the last date of submitting objections was

notified as 23rd January, 2021. The objections have been received. The Collector,

Solapur has to consider the objections and hear the objectors and thereafter, submit

his report to the State Government. In view thereof, the Collector, Solapur shall hear

the concerned parties and after considering the objections received, submit his report

to the State Government within a period of 12 weeks from today.

3. The State Government shall within a period of six months from the date of

receipt of the Report from the Collector, Solapur take its decision on the said report.

4. Since the other prayers sought in the Writ Petition have become infructous,

the Writ Petition is disposed of with the above directions.
